I had to wait two Christmases for a feather bed, but I finally got one! One year I wanted a membership to the [Michael Crawford International Fan Asssociation](http://michaelsfans.by.ru/fanseng.html) (membership was $50!), and I got that too. I was a weird kid. ---

There were two toys that I consider my white whales. Others have hinted around them, but include lesser toys in their lists. I can’t believe I’m the first to say these, but: 1. The GI Joe aircraft carrier and 1. The GI Joe Space Shuttle Oh, how I longed for those! When would I ever need friends again if I only had these? Never! But wait, who would I play with? Ah, that’s right! If I had these, every kid in the neighborhood would flock to my house, in awe of my new toys! ---

I bought myself a Lite-Brite a year ago yesterday, as a matter of fact, merely to relive the joy. I gave it away though, after futzing around with it for a little bit. But it was something like $8 at Target, so it was worth a little entertainment. **FilmGeek** , I was pretty spoiled, too (being an only child) but WHY DID THEY FORSAKE ME ON THE EASY BAKE OVEN! I don’t know how much they are now, but they’re probably a bit more than $8. And seeing as how I don’t use my REAL oven all that often, I probably shouldn’t bother. :rolleyes: ---

I had no idea the Easy Bake Oven was such a Holy Grail! All this time I thought I was the only one who drove her parents to the brink of insanity with my incessant pleading. Glad to know I’m in good company. (BTW- I would _still_ sell my brother for one.) 😉 ---

I forget the name of the toy now, but it was similar to a magna-doodle, except you slip a paper under it, and when you’re finished drawing, you erase the image on the pad, but the image transfered to the piece of paper! My best friend had it and I was insanely jealous. I pestered my parents until they finally gave in and bought me a knock-off version for my birthday. 😃 ---

Once you’ve lost a significant protion of the pegs to the vacuum cleaner and are forced to buy replacements, you realise that the replacement pegs look funny next to the regular pegs (or vice versa, depending on how many originals you’ve lost). I still have my Lite Brite, though the bulb burnt out years ago, and I haven’t been able to get a new one yet. I used to have an Easy Bake Oven, though that was probably given away years ago. I never did get the race track and/or train set I wanted when I was little though. Right now the toy I want (and have given up asking for…until the next version comes out) is a PS2. I recently got a PS1, but dammit I want to get the new Inuyasha game! **7-up yours** -I know what you’re talking about. It’s called a…er…um…I forgot. But I had one of those. And Magna-doodle (two, actually, the first one accidently got thrown out). Yes, I was also a bit spoiled. Don’t worry, now that I’m out in the real world and flat broke, my head has shrunk back to proper size. ---

All I wanted was a Mr. Potato Head. I was a spoiled kid and got barbie play castles and rocking horses and cabbage patch kids and every toy you could think of, but I never got the one I actually wanted. ---

I always wanted the Coleco hand-held Pac-Man game. I was so sad one Xmas morning when none of the packages were the same size as the box. The one toy I really _really_ wanted badly was the huge Trasformer, [Omega Supreme](http://www.tfu.info/1985/Autobot/OmegaSupreme/OmegaSupreme.htm). I never got one, and subsequently stopped believing in Santa Claus. I learned later that my mom had visited darn near every toy store in the state trying to find one, with no luck. ---

Electric football. My dad kept telling me, “ **Incubus** , its a ripoff. Ask for something you’ll like better.” but of course, nearly everything was a ‘ripoff’ to my dad, so this didn’t really faze me. By ‘electic football’ I was convinced I’d have a team of little robotic players running around on the field, playing an actual game of football! I didn’t realize until MUCH later its just a bunch of plastic guys on a vibrating metal sheet that kind of just veer about randomly. Thank goodness I didnt actually get it! :smack: I also always wanted Metroplex, a Transformer that turned into a base. The thing was HUGE (probably one of the biggest transformer toys at the time) and even came with a couple of little car transformers that could drive into bays in the base. But sadly, no go ☹ ---

When I was 6, all I wanted for Christmas was a Crayola Caddy, which was this pyramid-shaped turntable thing that held markers, water colors, chalk, and about a bajillion crayons. Mom would ask me over and over what I wanted, and all I said was, a Crayola Caddy. She interrogated me constantly, trying to get me to ask for something else, but I was fixated on the damn Crayola Caddy. And she couldn’t find one anywhere. They were being advertised on TV, but there was not a one to be found in any of the stores in town, and it wasn’t in the Sears catalog, either. Pay attention, kiddies. Before the internet, there was the Sears Christmas Catalog. If it wasn’t in the Sears Catalog, you were S.O.L. She finally found one _the day before Christmas Eve._ Whenever she tells the story, I tell her that I loved that damn thing for years and years, and she says, smugly, “I know.” ---

As I discussed in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=280293), my one childhood dream was to own an [AT-AT](http://www.toysrgus.com/index.php?action=disp_item&item_id=39617). It would have completed my collection of Star Wars’ Imperial action figures and vehicles. I still bear the emotional scars from that deprivation. ---
