I’ll follow your rules, _unlike some other people_ and say **Titanic**.
You already know what the ending is going to be.. so it spoils itself and thats why I think it’s overrated.

Wait, after re-reading the thread, no not Citizen Kane, but Dark Knight. What pretentious paranoid drivel. Utter crap. A horrible movie. I sat through it waiting for the amazing experience and ground shattering performance. I so wished I walked out in the first five minutes. The wife felt the same way. I will just never understand what was so fucking special about whats his guy as the joker. Did I mention how revoltingly pretentious it was?

I’m fond of _Kane_, but I did have the benefit of seeing it for the first time while taking a film class. We were (of course) working our way sequentially through the history of film, and the look and structure of _Citizen Kane_ were very innovative in many ways compared to films that had come before it. I think that innovation is mostly lost on modern audiences who look back on it now.

The Blair Witch Project was pretty awful.
I find I dislike Forrest Gump more every time somebody tries to defend it. It really was just a cheesy, corny, pointless movie. I quite enjoyed this Agony Booth review of Forrest Gump.

Some of my choices have already been mentioned, but the most recent movie that I saw that completely bored me to tears was _ **Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy** _. The movie was highly rated and I love Gary Oldman as an actor. So I was really disappointed by what turned out to be a horribly tedious, plodding movie.

Saw that on the plane, switched to another movie after half an hour even though the entertainment system warned me we would be landing before that new movie finished. Like **nivlac** I was looking forward to seeing Gary Oldman in it, but I just could not follow what the hell was going on.
To be fair, that does not make it overrated at all; it’s not like it’s won a bunch of Oscars so it does not really belong in this thread.

Worst. Joker. Ever.
Terrible ending.
If Heath Ledger (who had a lot of talent) hadn’t have died, the movie would have been panned.

Maybe your life.
Seriously though, what is entertaining or meaningful about Tom Hanks essentially being photo shopped next to dozens of different celebrities? Why do Forrest’s legs magically heal? Why does Forrest’s level of intelligence vacillate wildly throughout the film? A film isn’t funny or meaningful because it includes a bunch of mentions of cultural and historical events if the film fails to provide any humorous or interesting commentary or analysis about those events.
It’s far from the worst movie ever made. But it is quite overrated.

I can’t show you my Noble Prize because I’m not familiar with that particular award. I do happen to have a Nobel Prize I could show you. Of course, it was originally given to Muhammed Yunus; the story of how it wound up in my possession is not a pretty one, so I’ll spare you guys the details.

_Forrest Gump_ isn’t a comedy, it’s a tragedy. All of those extraordinary moments, which would bring joy, or awe, or some sort of meaning to anybody’s life are, in a sense, wasted on somebody who is fundamentally unable to appreciate them.
Watch it with that in mind and see if you like it any better.

The biggest gap between expectation and reality for me was [The Tree of Life](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478304/). I’d heard such fabulous things about its depth, use of allusion, cuts to “nature documentary” footage as metaphor, and so on. My cosmos it was dull. Dull dull dull dull. It was so slow I think time actually went backwards while I was watching it. Glaring at the readout on the DVD player, waiting for a digit to turn over, was more entertaining.

Yes. Not that it’s very bad, I just don’t see why people think it’s so great. Its idea is just like The Matrix - with less special effects.
