People still say this? In my youth, it was synonymous with “bizarre” or unusual." Which made absolutely no sense. As in, “Then he started singing a Britney Spears song on the table. He’s so random!”

Ugh. Reminds me of the 90s version of the Valley Girl.

(In the interests of full disclosure, I was called “random” a few times. First time it was cute. Third time, I had the urge to smash a dictionary in the randomee’s grill.)
I’ve heard it a good bit recently…must be making a comeback…

either that, or us kids in Southern Ohio are behind the times…not really though, I’ve heard it all over recently…

“Closure” is pretty god-damned annoying. And anytime a “task force” is assembled, and they aren’t storming a cliff somewhere.
“Ultimate.” It’s _everywhere._ Absolutely everything is the “ultimate” something.
There’s a computer company near my place of work that likes to use absolutes when describing (and sometimes naming) their gaming PC builds, only trouble is that this sets them up for some really stupid blurb like: “The Raptor Chrome system is even more ultimate than its predecessor, the Raptor Titanium. With the Raptor Chrome system, the possibilities are endless, but not as endless as when you buy it together with the Raptor Tungsten Shock games controller.”

“Genius”, “legendary” and “random”. “Solution” also gets a special mention.

It’s a complicated **issue**.

We need to discuss these **issues**.

There are \*\*issues \*\* with it.

Will this be an **issue**?

It may be an **issue**.
If you watch the home improvement shows on any of five channels, they use the word “pop” twice in each episode.
“Those colorful accents make the room pop.”

And when did they stop calling them “rooms” and start calling them “spaces?” I hate that!

“Uber” is another one I hear all the time.

I came here to post the same thing. I want to throw a brick through the tube everytime the folks on HGTV say it.

Oh and the over use of the word “clearly” is really starting to piss me off.
Clearly I have issues.

Watch any reality show and you’ll hear the word **journey** a lot.

I also nominate **pimp** and **literally** , which was already mentioned, but it deserves to be seconded.

Oh, and **like** , as in “He’s **like literally** climbing the walls.” A sentence like that would make my head explode.

My husband says **like** a lot when he’s nervous and speaking to someone he doesn’t know very well. I cringe, but it’s a nervous habit that I won’t be able to break him of.

For what must be a really odd reason, I’ve seen the word “risible” in print about 50 times over the last two months. I probably saw it once in the previous 34 years of my existence.

It’s basically synonymous with “laughable” for those playing along.

And, synonymous means “means the same”.

Gotta’ be “awesome”, and it’s almost always used incorrectly.
Most overused phrase, “at the end of the day”.

“Serious” when used like this;

Me: I’m so sick of the current use of certain catchphrases.

Them: Serious.

Me: :smack:

**Sapo**
I’ll second that nomination for **scenario**.

**Left Hand Of Dorkness**
Didn’t Monty Python have a routine where somebody was issuing a rebuttal to an editorial and among his credentials, he a member of the “Well Basically” society? When he starts his rebuttal the first 2 words are “Well, basically …”

“Myself,” which is now the pretentious synonym for “me.” Athletes are particularly horrible with that one. There were three "myself"s in [this one football article yesterday.](http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/sports/AP-FBN-NFL-All-Pro-Team.html)
