I prefer the term “cow pie” as in, “That’s a cow pie we don’t want to step into” for “that’s an issue we don’t want to get involved with.” Gives things a more earthy tone.
Now if you going to get into misused words, that opens a whole 'nother kettle of fish. You got nauseous vs. nauseated, sensuous vs. sensual . . . I mean, the list would literally be ginourmous.
