Most perfect series ending

Agreed, but you didn’t say anything about the ending.

“The Wire”'s final moments are sort of an anti-finale; rather than wrapping things up, we see that things will continue much as they always have. Some characters move up, some stay where they are. Some have beaten their personal demons, and some have not, and some have demons anew. Baltimore goes on, as it always has. Like the rest of the series, the final moments are a reflection on the passage of life.

Newhart gets bonus points to the top of the heap for going out on a high note instead of depressing everybody with a teary goodbye.

One that’s not a “true” ending- I loved the final episode of **Scrubs **(not the new one, but the one they THOUGHT would be the finale).

JD walking out of the hospital, with various callbacks to various patients, doctors, and people he’s met over the years, and then going out and having one last dream sequence, basically telling us it’s gonna be okay if the series is canceled. And we watch the home-movies sequence of a future that could be for JD, Turk, and Dr. Cox…

I thought it was a really well done finale, and totally pushed aside because of ABC picking up scrubs again… To me that ending will always be the True Finale.

Nobody has mentioned MASH yet? To this day it still has the highest viewer percentage compared to the overall population of any TV show.

I totally agree with the consensus about “Newhart”. That one hasn’t been topped.

But I’m surprised that no one has mentioned “Boston Legal”.

Denny and Alan get married and Antonin Scalia officiates. Totally ridiculous, and totally perfect.

At the end of Buffy, Season 7, my money was on Joss Whedon pulling a Blake. Who else would have the balls?

Another vote for Six Feet Under being the best series ending I ever remember. And I go back to the Ding Dong School era.

I loved the Blake’s 7 ending. Audacious. (anyone else notice how the head alien on the new V series looks so much like the evil Supreme Commander Servalan?)
and yes the Newhart ending worked because it was a great comedic touch for a comedy series.

The only decent ending to MASH would have been Hawkeye getting nibbled to death by rabid wolverines.
