I didn’t want to resurrect the whole 900 post thread on this BS right-wing buzzword, but I note that “cancel culture” has now been invoked to protest against the “cancellation” of a racehorse due to the horse expressing conservative, pro-family views…oh, wait, no, for [testing positive for steroids](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/may/10/bob-baffert-medina-spirit-kentucky-derby-horse-racing-cancel-culture-disqualification). Guess the lab had a liberal bias. “First they came for the Cat in the Hat, and I did not speak up because I am not a cartoon…then they came for my horse’s betamethazone…” ---

That’s got to take the cake. I thought the Dr. Seuss and Mr Potato Head stuff was pretty silly, as there was no big public outcry, just a change on the part of the publisher/manufacturer that people latched onto as some sort of vague idea that it was being “cancelled” from without, rather than the publisher/manufacturer doing this entirely on their own initiative. But this? This guy seems to be desperately trying to deflect any criticism of his horse in any way possible- “cancel culture”, or my favorite part of the article- the part where he says that one of the positive test results was because one of the grooms (horse maintenance people) took cold medicine and peed on some hay, which the horse subsequently ate, causing it to show positive. It’s idiotic, but it’s just this guy trying to deflect blame and/or criticism for cheating. ---

I’m curious how much human urine would have to get on the hay for a horse to test double the limit. Assuming he’s claiming an accidental taint. Surely there are better ways to target someone. ---

I’ve actually seen an American horsey friend of mine say this decision was wrong because “it wasn’t the horse’s fault.” Um. I’m sure I don’t need to complete the way I would have rebutted that if I hadn’t decided that, well, crazy is crazy. ---

Which is more impressive given that betamethazone ISN’T BANNED in totality, only on race days, because a horse might not notice an injury and cause further harm. Given that the half-life in the body is measured in hours, to test positive requires literal race day injection. Eating a little pisshay ain’t gonna do it. ---

More evidence that Republicans have the emotional maturity of 4-year-olds. - Baffert/Trump: “I won!” - Reality: “Um, no, you didn’t.” - Baffert/Trump: “Cancel culture!”/“Massive fraud!” Not to mention the idiocy of applying the already absurdly overstretched “cancel culture” idea to now mean, apparently, anything that changes any result or status. (I wonder if any of these idiots came to the defense of the Chicago Little League team that won the LLWS in 2014 only to be disqualified for using ineligible players. Probably not, since those kids were black.) ---

Now he’s on to “dermatitis treatment”. So he’s apparently admitting the test was accurate, but he’s still going to sue because his vet told him the amount detected was too low to affect the horse’s performance, so the fact that it exceeded the clearly defined permissible limit doesn’t matter because CANCEL CULTURE! ---

Part of the reason Baffert may be invoking cancel culture is that he probably got hit hard on the PR from by Trump calling his horse a junky [sic], and part of the degeration of our country since Biden took office. This is just Baffert’s way of saying “Hold your fire, I’m a rightwing dumbass just like you!” ---
