I have a strange fetish for scanning Ebay for ridiculously overpriced merchandise. Today, for example, I saw someone offering a New Kids on the Block concert ticket in poor condition for 4250 bucks, which is of course 4249 bucks more than even the most obsessive and rich NKOTB collector (if they exist) would pay. The selling point (in all fairness, the wording of the listing makes it pretty clear it is a child trying to sell the item, so the mistake in pricing is understandable) is that it is a for a concert in **Germany** and the writing is in **German**! I once saw some guy hawking an Elvis scarf worth 150 bucks for a million, so that, in his words, he wouldnt have to work again. These really interest me for some reason- does anyone have any others they have seen?

Well, there was the well-publicized case of the grilled cheese sandwich that had the Madonna on it going for I don’t know how many thousands of dollars. That was pretty crazy.

I’m going to put in one vote for the Elvis Fart in a Jar that somebody posted about not too long ago. The thing was up in the tens of thousands at that time and it was close to the first of April, so I can’t vouch for its accuracy. But I’d say that was a lot to pay for a jar of air, whether it had anything to do with Elvis or not.

You may be in for a nasty suprise- unless, of course, you meant to say Scotophile (is that even a word?).

Bairn is used in the north of England, or at least in Hartlepool. But not with wee in front of it.

Not exactly ridiculously overpriced, but I once put a Rush (the band) concert DVD on eBay. I don’t even like Rush - it was a free copy, part of a batch that a record-reviewer friend passed on to me. Anyway, I thought I might get about 10 pounds for it. In the event an insane bidding war sprung up, and in the end an American woman bought it for £135 (about US$240)

I thought it might have been a joke bid, but sure enough she poneyed up by PayPal, I sent the DVD, and positive feedback was left all round.

Never quite understood the logic - OK, I don’t think the video had been released in the US at the time, but I’m pretty sure it was due out a month or two later. Odd.

The Jesus pancake from a while back had to be right up there. I’m not sure what it finally sold for, but I’m pretty sure I can get a whole plate full of fresh pancakes (albeit sans Jesus) at IHOP for $5.99.

Are all of these items legitimately sellable, or does eBay shut down a lot of these things?

Try a search for Hermes Birkin or Kelly bags. Your eyeballs will fly out of your head.

I paid $14.99 for shipping for a Barbie doll for my daughter. He said it was that high for postage and time and packing. When I got it, it was $4 on the box and in a free priority mail box.
