I didn’t watch many of those games. As I said, it was from talking to Bears fans, reading the Trib, my quick perusal of the drafts, and his track record with the Saints that developed my impression of him as a coach. Those things, and the fact that he will forever be a shithead for refusing to allow the greatest player to ever suit up for the Bears to get a Super Bowl touchdown, instead giving it to a grandstanding, mentally deficient oaf in yet another effort to feed his ego, will forever tarnish Ditka in my eyes.
To be fair, Ditka has said that he now regrets that decision.
And it’s a five-minute detour to walk around him. Big guy, that one.
