Most unlikely thing you've found at a resale store

Some years back, I saw one at a resale store that was only open for a few months. It had no box, no chain and no drink holder. It still worked, though the shaking action had a hitch in it. I think it was $45. I was unable to resist its charms and bought it. We shared some profoundly moving philosophical insights together before it went into the toy closet where it has remained ever since. Online, nicer condition, more complete ones seem to be selling in the range of $150.

When I was a teenager I used to sometimes wear a pair of USMC dress blue trousers with a red stripe. I had bought them for less than $1 at an op shop here in Australia.

The thing I found at a resale shop was sadly some of my goofy artwork.

Never sold much of anything, but I gave away lots of things.

Yeah, I plopped the $2 down and bought it.

As a labor of love, someone a few miles from us used to run a “Plantation Museum” featuring everyday stuff dating back to East Hawaii’s heyday as a sugar producer. When operating it became too onerous for the aging owner, he sold off all the items.

I made it to the sale very late and probably missed a lot of good stuff. But one item still remaining was a stand mixer of gargantuan proportions. Obviously intended for commercial use, the bowl was easily big enough for 15 to 20 loaves worth of bread dough.

Fortunately it had a “sold” sticker on it, so I did not have to struggle with whether or not to buy it and what I would do with it if I did.
