# Most viscerally satisfying moments in movies ("just deserts," etc)

I was just watching _Boiler Room_ and there’s that scene where all the young trainees at the firm are sitting around in the meeting room on their first day, waiting for Ben Affleck’s character (one of the senior brokers) to come in and give them their introduction speech.
Affleck comes in and there’s a guy sitting in his chair. He walks up to him, and politely says, “sorry, that’s my seat, man.”
The guy gets out of the seat, embarrassed and apologetic. “Oh shit, man, I’m really sorry.” Affleck says, “it’s okay.”
Then the guy sitting next to Affleck’s seat looks at the guy who sat there without knowing, and as he’s walking away to find another seat, smirks and mutters, “fucking dumbass.”
There’s a pause, then Affleck goes, “get the fuck out of here. Don’t talk to me, don’t look at me, just pick your ass up out of that Italian leather chair and get the _fuck_ out of this room. We expect you to treat your co-workers with a certain level of respect.”
It’s so satisfying because the guy was being such an asshole and Affleck’s character just smacked him down so hard.
There are a lot of moments like this in movies, where someone gets “what’s coming to them,” for doing something extremely rude, annoying, evil, etc.
Another one is The Mist, when Ms. Carmody, the raving lunatic who turned half of the crowd against the other half with her “prophecies,” gets unexpectedly shot to death by the unassuming, dorky manager.
The whole theater cheered and burst into applause when that happened.
What are some other moments like this? Moments where someone who is just behaving like a real piece of shit gets what they deserve? Ever seen the whole theater burst into applause at something like this?

It’s really wrong, but in _Oleanna_ when the professor knocks Olenna to the ground near the end was one of the most satisfying moments ever for me. I was actually shocked at myself for feeling such strong catharsis.

There were several in The Wire, but the two most notable:
Stringer Bell getting capped by Omar and Brother Mouzone, both of whom he had fucked over, among many others, and knowing exactly who was doing it, why, and how (his best friend, who he set up to get arrested, gave him away to his assassins). And, in the last ep of the series, when Slim Charles just got sick of Cheese and shot that swaggering asshole out of nowhere. Cheese was also guilty of sociopathic behavior and betrayal of his uncle, so I was quite glad to see him get taken down.

**Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan** : The Enterprise gets the jump on the Reliant in the Mutara Nebula and proceeds to beat the enemy ship into scrap, after spending most of the movie either being pounced and pounded on or having to flee for its life after being crippled early on.
I’d add more, but most of my favorite “had it coming” moments tend to be on TV shows (a certain scene from Babylon 5 involving cheerful gospel music about Judgement Day and a mob of angry Narn comes to mind)

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I just remembered a great one - one of the only other times I’ve seen the theater erupt in applause and cheers. It was in _A History of Violence,_ when Mr. Stall’s son finally turns the tables on that bully who keeps pushing him around at school, and just beats him into a bloody pulp right there in the hallway.

The first movie to come to mind on reading the title here is the old Rutger Hauer movie [Wanted: Dead or Alive (1987)](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094293/) which came out around the same time as _The Hitcher_ and five years after _Blade Runner_.
Gene Simmons (tongue, KISS, Shannon Tweed) plays a Middle Eastern terrorist who bombs several places and does heinous things in general.
Rutger’s character is from the same lineage as Steve McQueen’s character in the old TV Western of the same title. Surname: Randall.
Enough bad blood has built up in Rutger concerning Simmons that after the inevitable chase and capture, Rutger stuffs a grenade in Gene’s mouth and ties a rope around his neck and leads him to the cops. Rutger mutters some comment about the fact that he’s due a bonus for bringing Gene in alive. After a few beats he turns to Gene, yanks out the pin and says “Fuck the bonus” (or words to that effect). The camera pulls back and we get to see Gene’s head go away.
I must confess that I had no previous experience with Simmons, not aware at the time of his tongue, KISS, or Shannon. His character was enough for this to be a rewarding scene. Nowadays, it would mean even more! 😃

The only role-type I would consider actually performing (and I look the part!) is a sleazy evil junkie who gets his well-deserved payback, a lá:
“Remember, Scully, how I said I’d kill you last?”
“Yeah…yeah, I remember that!”
“I lied.”
