> It wasn’t just the leaving the baby at the store, though. It was that she missed the dog first. However, the worst part was when she wasn’t even phased by the fact that her son almost died at birth. That’s…creepy.

We’re not given enough information in the story, but let’s assume that baby is significantly younger than dog, as we know the baby is three weeks old. That’s still in the “getting into a routine” phase of parenthood, yes? I’m willing to forgive the fact that she noticed the dog was gone first _because of this pertinent bit of information_. I really don’t buy into the “psychopath” diagnosis that many of you are assigning the woman. She obviously regrets having kids because she doesn’t feel as intensely for them as she’s told she should, but I think some of the “you should be hysterical when you lose your baby” reactions are a bit ridiculous.

Overall, I really think that she should’ve thought twice before having kids, but that it’s important for someone to actually be honest about regretting their children. Parenthood is different for every person who experiences it, and shaming folks for not feeling the absolute highs that some experience is counterproductive. It’s a bit tacky that she used her real name and added photos of herself and the kids, but some of that blame can definitely be shifted to the publication that ran the story.

My mom is similar to the woman in this article. Some women just aren’t very susceptible to oxytocin. It’s within ranges of normal, IMO. My mom did and does love us, in her own way, and did her best to meet all of our needs, which I give her a lot of credit for because when you have little maternal instinct or gushy feelings of true love for your kids, it makes the constant labor you must do for their sake much less rewarding. Unless a parent abandons, neglects, or abuses their kids, I’m not at all comfortable labeling them as ‘bad’.

Writing this article was in bad taste, though.
