Thank you. I try. Hell, sometimes I even succeed. Naming a syndrome after **Hildo** ’s behaviors simply has to be galling to the man… Having a syndrome is akin to having a disease. To be the index case of a newly identified disease…? Anathema! But wait! It can’t be a disease! Or _can_ it? _:: looks up **EJsGirl** ’s list ::_ Well, whattaya know? There are a _number_ of disease process definitions that might fit **Hilldo** ’s observed behaviors! Congrats, **Hildo**! It’s a bouncy baby disorder! We can start working on a cure for **Hildo** right away! Said cures might take any number of amusing and entertaining forms, depending on each investigator’s inclinations. I, personally, want to investigate vigorous application of a clue-by-four. ---

[/QUOTE] No problem, it’s not often that my intimate knowledge of adverse event reporting comes in handy. 🙂 I debated about putting insurance companies in there, but I guess I just wanted to acknowledge that things are less than ideal in getting new treatments out. But as someone in the trenches of new drug development (literally, I’m probably the lowest paid person on any given trial ☹ ), we’re really doing all we can to bring safe and effective treatments to people. Sometimes, it’s also the fault of doctors who don’t keep up on the latest treatments. You’ve got to find a happy medium between spamming doctors with advertising for your drug and him not knowing it even exists. There are several factors here. I just can’t take the conspiracy theorists seriously. Then again, I can’t speak for everyone–cancer research likely isn’t exactly the same as the research that’s going on for the newest ED drug. One of my officemates has a drug monitor who used to work on Viagra trials exclusively…he’s one strange dude… ---

I just did a quick search since he posted the :rolleyes: message to see what types of threads he’s started. I know he’s pretty much an asshole to everyone in the Pit, but I was surprised to see how well he’s spread around starting threads in all of the forums; not just this one. So yah, I’m tired of him in the pit too, but he’s contributed in all the forums (GQ, CAFE, IMHO, etc…). And I don’t really care how many threads you start, I think it’s more important the quality of contribution all over. ---

I had a friend rant about how “unsafe” drugs were being put onto the market, and only later was it “revealed” that after 5 or 10 or 20 years of use, something bad would happen (I think it was around the time of the Vioxx recall). “How can they market these things without knowing all the side effects?” she asked. I asked her to tell me how to get long-term data if no one uses the drug over long spans of time. And has already been pointed out, often times the side effects are _worth it_ for the patient. In the case of Vioxx, given to arthritis sufferers, several years of relatively pain-free life is _worth_ the risk of heart problems later on. I am certain that drug will return, although in a more restricted set of applications. It was just too good, and for some patients, with some diseases, the only real option. ---
