This is one of many lessons I expect to learn as a newly crowned bachelor. I could swear I had packed oven mitts when I moved out of the house, but then I was baking a pizza, and I couldn’t find them! And instead of doing something logical like, you know, using a towel, I decided to throw on the closest thing to “protective gear” I could think of in the moment. So I put on my motorcycle gloves. Um…they didn’t really work. So anyway…what poor choices have you made in terms of emergency substitutes? Duct tape for bandages? Sandpaper for TP? Bring it! ---

I’ve never made a bad choice in my life! Next time try firefighting gloves or falconers gloves. Working at a tackle shop for about a year tought me that those things can take tons of abuse. As in thousands of yards of braided fishing line being rubbed against them with probably around ten pounds of pressure. I have melted a few pairs of shoes and sandals by keeping my feet too close to campfires. Also I had a small chunk of hot coal stick to my hand after I tried picking it up off the floor to put it back in the grill. Your weren’t burned too bad I hope. ---

As a kid I tried to smother a small fire I started in our basement with paper towels. Poof! Same kid removed the front tire from his bike then put it back on. Then to test if it was on tight enough rode down the street and jerked upward on the handlebars. Painful lesson learned. ---

I’d heard that the adhesive was slightly toxic if put on a cut. ---

Otherwise when you remove it, any healing that had occured would be ripped open worse. You wad up a couple layers of paper towel first on the bleeding part. ---

If they are summer gloves, then they won’t, but I use my winter gloves for oven mitts frequently. ---

I’ve picked up a soldering iron with my left hand, intending to transfer it to my right. Of course I wanted to put the handle in my right hand. Of course this meant absent-mindedly picking it up by the hot end. :smack:
