My GT Palomar doesn’t have a kickstand and I’ve always wanted one, just haven’t gotten around to putting one on. As long as it stays up securely when I’m riding, I wouldn’t mind the minor extra weight.

Interetsing, I’ve never used a kickstand for my commuter bike either and am frequently loaded down with panniers. But I live in a pretty big city with bike racks everywhere. The weight is irrelevent to me, but on my mountain bike the thing drove me crazy.
I hear you on the limited space in an apartment though. I used to hang my bike on the wall.
