I needed all 6 clues.
One clue was enough to be sure.
Young Frankenstein
Come to think of it, Gene Wilder would have 4:
- Blazing Saddles
-
Young Frankenstein
-
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
-
The Producers
I listed Young Frankenstein for her.
My mind immediately went to Michael Caine, but then the western clue made me think of Sam Elliot (and the US Army clue nixed all the Brits I’d thought of).
This was a clever quiz; a thread full of brainteasers like this (submitted by anyone?) would be fun.
My first thought before looking at the first clue was Spencer Tracey.
Or start a fresh thread for another trivia like this tomorrow and let this play out a little.
D’oh!
That’s it. I’m done. Either I’ve been drinking too much or not enough.
Leslie Nielsen definitely was a serious actor… by Hollywood standards.
First, he was a romantic leading man in movies like Forbidden Planet and Tammy. Then he had a variety of serious roles. Sometimes he was a “heavy.” He played a cattle baron in The Sheepman and a corrupt politician in City on Fire. (I spent too much time searching his filmography.)
@Dr.Winston_OBoogie likes Young Frankenstein.
I wasn’t aware of his service background (and thank him for it), but clue 6 by itself gave me the correct answer. The cowboy background had me thinking of Tom Mix.
Clue 6 was meant to give the answer if you knew him at all.
I set the hints sequentially, to build towards the answer.
'Westerns" and “the US Army Air Forces” immediately made me think of Jimmy Stewart, but I don’t associate him with “two of the greatest comedies of all time.”
