I’ve seen most of those, and many others besides, and am spectacularly unimpressed generally with awards, Academy and otherwise. I have no idea if Lange won any awards or was nominated for any for Tootsie or Frances, but I do know that my clothes caught fire from the intensity of both performances. That girl has acting chops, and I’ll preach it to anyone who wants to hear me preach. Which of those performances will you vouch for?
Jennifer Connelly comes to mind. IMHO she seemed more attractive than talented in “Requiem for a Dream.” I saw “A Beautiful Mind” much later, and she did a fantastic job in “Dark Water” - I don’t think there’s another Hollywood remake of Asian horror that didn’t completely suck.
