**Remakes That Were Better Than The Original** _(I’m aware this will be a very subjective category, so don’t be too upset if someone disses on your favorite film!)_ 1. _Casino Royale_ – Daniel Craig’s initial outing as the Double-O agent licensed to kill in 2006 is superior in _oh_ so many ways to the waste of celluloid that was David Niven’s 1967 attempt at becoming part of the world of James Bond. The fact that there are no less than five different people credited as directors was, in hindsight, probably a pretty good clue that this was going to ramble all over the place – and it did. 2. _The Fly_ - Not dissing the original at all, but Cronenberg cranks it up a couple of notches. And “Be afraid. Be very afraid.” 3. _Ocean’s Eleven_ - The Rat Pack version is classic, but the Clooney-pack version knocks it out of the park. 4. _The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo_ - I’ve seen both the original and the remake, and although the first is fine, IMHO the second is _much_ better: better cast, better cinematography, scarier, higher production values, etc. 5. _Little Shop of Horrors_ - high-production musical tops Roger Corman’s original, even if it did have Jack Nicholson. 6. _The Thing_ - Blows the doors off _The Thing from Another World_ 7. _Scarface_ - People are not as familiar with the 1932 film as they are the 1983 de Palma version. 8. _The Mummy_ - The “Indiana Jones” style of movie-making made this Brendan Fraser vehicle a smash hit. (Let’s not discuss the Tom Cruise dud.) ---
