**Contrivances, hand-waves, and other “let’s get on with its”**

1. The castle-destroying lever at the end of _Bride of Frankenstein_ (1935)
2. Superman reverses the planet’s rotation to turn back time and bring Lois back to life _Superman_ (1978)
3. Catwoman’s apparent nine lives in _Batman Returns_ (1992)
4. Charlotte the spider weaves the words “SOME PIG” into her spider web. Woman says “Seems to me we have no ordinary spider” and man says, “No, it’s just a common gray spider.” Yeah, because spelling out words in a web is common spider behavior (eye roll). But, ya know, it’s the pig that has to be seen as special for the story to move on. _Charlotte’s Web_ (1973)
