When I think of movie theater scenes, it is about the visuals or the sound, but I think this one would qualify because in the theater the sudden silence was almost oppressive given the score in the previous scene and the visual in the scene itself.
I think I’ve mentioned it before, but there’s a story in Charlton Heston’s autobiography that I like. In 1966 he was in northern California filming a movie titled The War Lord. He said a teenager kept sneaking onto the set, and kept getting thrown out, until it was decided to let him stay Kid wasn’t bothering anybody, he just wanted to watch the movie being made. It was Spielberg of course. Heston said he never worked for him but he compared him to Cecil B. DeMille, whom he had worked with. He said they both had their finger on the pulse of what American’s would go to see in a movie.
