I’m amazed no one has mentioned “the Shining” sequence in which Jack Nicholson confronts the ghostly woman in room 217. The “first” nude woman I have no problem with, the “second” nude woman gave me nightmares for years after I saw it. ---

I too thought immediately of Harvey Keitel- hey, most actors will never make an impact like that! Also, maybe the “flash” moment in _Nobody’s Fool_ when Melanie Griffith gives Paul Newman a free shot. But hey, she was proud of those once-proud-but-past-their-prime boobies! And of course, Dennis Franz’ big old hairy white ass on _NYPD Blue_. PS- someone actually saw Jessica Tandy naked? Whoa. ---

pretty tough to beat jessica tandy… but how about that movie where sean young is in some cabin with a weird dude and strolls out buck naked? sean young may be able to pull off sexy mouth movements, but the girl should keep her clothes on. ---

How could I forget: Each and every scene of the corpse in “The River’s Edge.” Christ, that movie was disturbing on every level. ---

This thread just confirms that while Americans blame unhealthy body image stuff the media for its “unrealistic” images of young skinny beautiful people, most people really only want to see young skinny beautiful people naked onscreen. I liked seeing Harvey Keitel’s craggy form in The Piano. It was poignant, dammit. And Harold & Maude… Okay, that was party-pooper of me, I know. Anyone ever see The Cook, the Thief, the Wife, and Her Lover? Ooh, ooh, or Secrets and Lies? Yeeeeccccchhhhhhh. Bleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaggggghhhhhhhhhh. Ugly, fat, middle-aged people from the Big Book of Bad British Teeth. ---

This doesn’t quite fall into the same category, but I thought Jude Law naked in the talented Mr Ripley was the most pointless nude scene ever. There was no point to it, it added nothing to the movie, and it was too quick to even be really enjoyable. But hey! He’s pretty! Let’s show him naked! ---

I, too, opened this thread thinking “ **Harvey Keitel**.” I will also second **EJsGirl** on the **Dennis Franz** nomination. I could have lived my whole life very happily without having that image burned into my neurons. And on the subject of **Angie Dickinson** , I could have done without the gratuitous shot of her (very) saggy ass in Dressed to Kill. In defense of melanie Griffith, she did have one “good nudity” scene in Something Wild. The scene in Lolita has to take the cake for unwelcome nakedness, though. ---

I agree with robinh about Michael Douglas’ ass in “Basic Instinct”. Yeech. I thought he was sexy until that movie, that scene just ruined it for me. ---

**Fletch:** Yes, Julie Andrews gave us a flash in _SOB_, directed by her husband, Blake Edwards (more famous for helming the Pink Panther movies). I thought she was cute. Teeeeeeny tiny nipples, but cute. Everyone seems to be commenting on people they didn’t enjoy seeing naked. I’d like to steer the conversation toward nude scenes that didn’t add anything to the movie, or actively detracted from it. In particular, I’d point to Spike Lee’s _Girl 6._ Normally, I like Lee’s movies; I can forgive his melodramatic hysteria and frequent moral confusion in exchange for the very perceptive observations he can make in other quarters, not to mention flat-out cinematic exuberance. But the titty shot in _Girl 6_ was over the line. If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s about sexual exploitation. In one scene, the female hero is asked by a sleazy producer-type to show him her breasts. She starts to remove her top; cut to opposite view, and the producer’s leering expression. So far, so good, the point of the scene is clear. Then cut back to her, and a full view of her toplessness. Um, hello? Doesn’t that contradict what you’re trying to say, there, dude? ---
