i always answer: “yes, mr de niro, i’m talking to you.”

I quote the Princess Bride. Constantly. I’ll try not to say anything that’s been mentioned before, though.

“Life IS pain, Princess! Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.”

“Hello, lady.”

“If it is otherwise when [whatever], I shall be very Put Out.”

“Anybody want a peanut?” (just generally tossed into conversation to see who’ll pick up on it)

“Well…you were dead.”

“We are men of action. Lies do not become us.”

“Do you always start conversations like this?”

“Get used to disappointment.”

“I am not left-handed.” Generally interjected when someone is surprising someone else.

“It’s just a local fisherman, out for a pleasure cruise, at night, through…eel-infested waters.” When someone says something completely ludicrous.

“GenTLY!!”

(I do quote other movies, but I can’t remember those right off just now.)

“Oh, a wise-guy, eh?”

“Oh, stubborn, eh?” (when struggling with some reluctant piece of machinery)

“A backbiter!” Then bark like a bulldog.

“Do you swear–?” “No. But I know all the woids.”

“Hah, hah! You forgot to duck.” “So did you.”

“Gentlemen!” “Who came in?”

I have been known to hum like Curly when working: “La-la leee, nee nah-nah-nah…”

And, of course: “Woo-woo-woo-woo!”

“Slowly, I turned. Step by step…! Inch by inch…!”

And there’s that “EEYAH-AH-AH!” noise Curly made when shocked or startled or scared that just cannot be re-created in print. And since I wear glasses, I can’t slap myself in the face like he did, either. ☹
