> If I may nitpick a little: \*\*Cheaper by the Dozen \*\* was based on the book of the same name written by Frank B. Gilbreth & Ernestine Gilbreth Carey and supposedly based on their marriage. It was made into a film in 1950 starring Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy. The recent Steve Martin film was a remake of that.

Picking the nit a bit finer, it wasn’t about the marriage of Frank and Ernestine. Frank & Ernestine were two of the twelve Gilbreth children; the book was about life in their very large family.

I’ve never seen either of the movies that were based on the book, but from trailers for the Steve Martin vehicle it’s safe to say that the only thing it had in common with the book was the title. Too bad, because the book is a lot of fun.

I think that if you remake movies, you should stick with the [classics](http://imdb.com/title/tt0034583/). After all, with such great source material, what could possibly go [wrong](http://imdb.com/title/tt0115624/)?

So there’s no Mr. Beardsley?

Mr. Beardsley?

Mr. Beardsley?

Mr. Beardsley?!

A remake of **Yours, Mine and Ours** doesn’t sound too bad to me. But on the other hand, I’d happily watch a TV show based on **Cheaper By The Dozen** , so there’s no accounting for taste, huh?

> That’s interesting; Ferrell’s law-enforcement character in [Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0261392/) was named “Marshal Willenholly.” Did anyone else catch that?

Yep, and it was indeed a reference to LotL. Kevin Smith is good for little inside jokes like that.

> I thought it was out of control when they remade _The Sons of Katie Elder_ (a classic John Wayne/Dean Martin movie) with Marky Mark. John Wayne, 60 years old and lungless could take Mark any day of the week, and thrice on thursday.

I’d recommend catching this movie though, I saw it, and it’s pretty good.

Back to the topic, I’d be against them remaking Suburban Commando. I don’t think any remake could do that movie justice.

I know that it’s one of the signs of the Apocalypse when I see that Tim Burton is remaking [Rabbit Test](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078133/) with Crispin Glover in the lead role.

Actually, I love the original “Yours, Mine, and Ours”, and I own the book and the DVD. I’ll watch the remake, although I doubt it’ll do the story, or the Norths and Beardsleys, credit.

Not saying I didn’t enjoy it, it was entertaining; certainly moreso than the last few. But it was mindless entertainment: cliche, formulaic, and completely unnecessary.

Actually, I was disgusted when the Psycho remake came out, and the director was bragging about trying to match all of Hitchcock’s timing for the original. That just seemed waaaay over the line into lack of imagination.

BTW, as long as we’re talking about Don Knots vehicles, wasn’t there talk of redoing [The Incredible Mr. Limpet](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058230/)?

And for all that “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” is a little dated, if you want really dated, try this other Don Knotts [film](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062190/). 😉

Aww, I thought you were linking to “The Shakiest Gun in the West”. I used to love Don Knotts … up until he was on _Three’s Company_.

What’s a “necessary” film?
