To the OP for me it has to be “The Toxic Avenger”. Some reviewer described it as quite possibly the worst, most violent, offensive movie he had ever seen. He’d watch it again in a minute. (Doubtless I am remembering the quote wrong but it was something like that.)

It was made by Troma Films which specialized in bad movies. Purposely bad. And they nailed it with “The Toxic Avenger”.

**WARNING:** The movie goes out of its way for truly over-the-top violence and is about as offensive as it can be at every turn. It goes so far that it turns the corner into parody to me but still…many may find it deeply disturbing. It is hard to overstate this. Really not kidding.

Possibly even more bent is the movie “Street Trash”. Toxic Avenger turned up to 11.

> _The Happening_ . Terrible concept, badly written, abysmally acted. At first I kept watching because I thought, “Surely the guy who made _The Sixth Sense_ has some tricks up his sleeve that will redeem this.” But after a while I kept watching because I was curious how much worse it could get. I was not disappointed.

I’ll happily agree with this. I showed it once at one of my Bad Film Festivals. The first time I saw it, I guessed what the “twist” was going to be very early, and said out loud “Oh, god, he’s not going to do _that_, is he?”

He did.

_The Wizard of Gore_. Utterly terrible, but it transfixes you to keep watching just to see how much worse it gets. By the end of the flick, you are shouting at the screen and jumping around.

_“No! NO! That’s WRONG!!!”_

It’s one of those movies I would watch as a kid and have absolutely no clue what was happening, but I loved it because everything in it was just so strange. It still doesn’t make any sense as an adult, but I still love it for the same reason.

Just watching it I would agree, but I have friends who loved the book and the entire mythos and they explained so much it greatly improved the experience.

But yeah, going in fresh the entire movie is a ‘WTF?’ shitshow.

I wonder if I’m the type of fan I complain about being especially harsh and picky on fiction that I love because, even though I did sit through the original Dune, it was not with much enjoyment. It did not reach the so-bad-it’s-good territory. I felt the same way about the last Godzilla with Brian Cranston. That shit was just. . . shitty. Wince inducing, even. However, I _loved_ Pacific Rim’s cheezy over the top giant robot vs kaiju fights and had fun with Battleship.

Nah, it’s not me. I’ve rewatched the Mathew Broderick Godzilla loads of times and that surely isn’t high art. Dune and that other Godzilla movie are plain awful.

I read a review of Pacific Rim that summed it up perfectly: Can’t decide if it’s a good bad movie or a bad good movie.

Oh yes Godzilla (2014) is another movie that gets yelled out as a joke to watch on movie night. Daughter left the boy and me to see if it would improve, which it did not. The dog always joined us on the sofa and for this snored and farted the whole way through, he was quite the erudite movie critic.

San Andreas however was an OTT movie with Dwayne Johnson hamming it up , it was fun and bad but we were always going to watch it through and it was everything it said on the tin.

_Space Mutiny_ is South African? One of the riffs on that MST3K episode is made over a bodies flying battle sequence: “One thing this movie does well is tossing Canadians around.”

I am currently watching _Future Schlock_(1984) on B-Movie TV. It is about the the aftermath of the great culture wars. Who won? The supposed Australian national anthem sung by schoolchildren at the beginning of the movie should give you a hint:

Australia’s sons let us rejoice For we are middle class
We’ve golden soil and sun tan oil Our home is girt by grass
Our land is drowned in swimming pools The barbie’s over there
The Carlton Light and cask of white Are in the Frigidaire
A pie and sauce, a winning horse. T.V. and easy chair
Australia’s homes are brick veneer We own a Betamax
We’ve Commodores and sliding doors We cheat a bit on tax
A microwave and Magimix A dishwasher as well
We’re good at golf, three cheers for Rolf We’re in the R.S.L.
At Christmas time we choose our gifts From Myers and K-Tel
Of course we all like Chinese food And own a caravan
Electrolux and flying ducks A non-stick frying pan
K-Mart’s our fashion saving place The shopping mall’s our shrine
Our homes are clean, we drink Ben Ean While watching channel 9
I’m sure the neighbours would approve. Their taste’s the same as mine.

Lovin’ this crap, I am.

I posted this is in another thread but I’ll post it here because it is relevant to your post:

TV Tropes has an entry called “Voodoo Shark” based on _Jaws: The Revenge_ . It’s when writer tries to explain a plot hole away, except the explanation _itself_ is a Plot Hole. The one from _Jaws: The Revenge_ is that writers explain the shark wants revenge on the Brody family due to a Voodoo curse but they don’t explain why the Voodoo curse was made in the first place.

While that’s a clever line, and I’ve read more than one review that reflected that sentiment, I think it’s badly wrong-headed. _Pacific Rim_ is a good movie. Period. It knows exactly what it wants to do, and it does it well. It’s just that what it wants to do is be big and goofy and fun and have kaiju fight giant robots, which some people seem to think make it a bad movie by definition.

_Space Mutiny_ was filmed in South Africa. I just went through the first six cast members listed on IMDB - four America and two South African. Maybe further down a lot of minor characters were played by Canadian actors, but that seems unlikely. I don’t know why MST3K riffed on “tossing Canadians around”, other than that maybe _Space Mutiny_ resembles a lot of low-budget Canadian-filmed sci-fi?
