So, we are headed out on a plane in a while, I am looking for movie suggestions to download on iPad for my daughter to watch on the plane, older movies she may not have seen. One thought was Pretty Woman, but that’s not available for purchase, rent only. Other ideas? ---

Not trying to be a jerk, but a movie about a prostitute who sleeps her way to the top of Richard Gere? Not for a 10 year old. IMHO. I could be wrong, but it just isn’t something I’d want my 10 year old in a vulnerable spot (big plane ride for vacay) to see and remember for the rest of her life. If you want a romantic fun movie, that’s also sort of old, maybe _Trouble In Paradise_. She’ll probably fall asleep, but it’s a great movie wth great actors, and what’s better than than flying with an awake 10 year old? Flying with an asleep 10 year old.😃 _High Anxiety_, though – sure, it’s a bit twisted what with the height and stuff, but it’s funny, PG or even G rated (IMHO), a modern classic, funny (wait, I mentioned that!), and maybe she’ll get inspired to see some of the movies it spoofs. _Black Sunday_ – I was wrong. That’s way too dark and violent for a 10 year old. Plus, I don’t think 10 year olds even know what a Goodyear Blimp is unless her father is a big football fan – as I used to be. Never mind. Still a sore loser. Think about baseball! ---

What’s the one where the actress (Parker Posey?) says in a moment of triumph “I want to be a librarian!”? I still say _High Anxiety_ is top pick for me – funny, romantic, clever. Honestly can’t think of a better choice – BUT, she might think her old man is trying to foist some “high society” little old man stuff on her, so it may not be the best. FYI – _Clueless_ is an adaptation of “Emma” by Jane Austen, and _10 Things I Hate About You_ is an adaptation of “Taming of the the Shrew.” That reminds me: **Emma** (the one one with Gwyneth Paltrow) **Bring it On** (this isn’t a cheerocracy!) **Raiders of the Lost Ark** (please tell me she’s seen this already) **Spy Kids** (I though this was going to be stupid, but it was actually cute) **The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit** (sooo dated in that 60s Disney movie style but still great for horse loving kids. See if you can spot 13 year old Kurt Russel) **Big Trouble in Little China** (a great big WTF of a popcorn flick, still crazy after all these years.) **Back to the Future** (I mean, right?) \*_Rush Hour_ or **Shanghai Noon** or **Supercop** (Jackie Chan all tha waaaay) ---

We all know that. Now it’s my turn – I may not be up with kids today, but what 10 year old girl is going to like _Big Trouble In Little China_ or any of those typical 1980s guy flicks? I’ll give you _Back to the Future_ – if she hasn’t seen that, she’s missing out, and it’s got all the elements of a something-for-everyone picture. Plus, a kid can’t understand the references in shows like “Robot Chicken” without getting how iconic MJF was in the mid 1980s. The James Dean of mid-1980s, passed from Kurt Russell in the early 1980s and ceded throne to Tom Cruise in the late 1980s. Back on topic: you want old? Double feature: _Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon_ and _A Touch of Zen_. Romance, fast action, super special effects (in both). OK, _A Touch of Zen_ may be a little slow paced for a kid, but it’s got the deep characters, the awesome chick fighting, the romance – I’d put that double feature up against anything. ---

My bad – I just remember the part about “I want to be a librarian.” Allow me to propose _Best In Show_, or, since all these gung-ho movies are already floating around, play no trump and just come out and say _Spinal Tap_. Just saw it again last week, and I think it should be good for a kid. If she’s into music and likes to laugh. Ditto **Lamia** hard to say unless we know what she likes. As it stands, it’s just kind of generic “Hey, that could be good for kid!” At least that’s where I’m coming from. Did I mention _High Anxiety_ yet? That would be a great one. ---

A completely off the wall suggestion is _Bringing Up Baby_. Not sure if the black and white is a deal killer, but the movie cracked me up as a kid and still does today. How about the original _Men In Black_? I don’t think there is any objectionable language.
