I liked Max von Sydow in _Needful Things_.

Also, that creepy claymation movie _The Adventures of Mark Twain_ has a treatment of “The Mysterious Stranger.”

If so then John Glover from the canceled-before-its-time Fox series [Brimstone](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165564/) would qualify.

Not to mention the (special effect) Devil in [5 Million Years to Earth](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062168/).

… the Exorcist …
[/QUOTE]

I was surprised recently to learn that the demon in _The Exorcist_ is not the Devil (Satan/Lucifer, etc.), but an Assyrian-Babylonian demon named Pazuzu. As best as I can tell, they’re completely unrelated entities.

> In ancient Mesopotamian religion, Pazuzu (Akkadian: 𒀭𒅆𒊒𒍪𒍪, romanized: pà.zu.zu) is a demonic deity who was well known to the Babylonians and Assyrians throughout the first millennium BCE. He is shown with "a rather canine face with abnormally bulging eyes, a scaly body, a snake-headed penis, the talons of a bird and usually wings". He was believed to be the son of the god Hanbi.

> The Exorcist is a 1973 American supernatural horror film directed by William Friedkin from a screenplay by William Peter Blatty, based on his 1971 novel. The film stars Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Jason Miller, and Linda Blair, and follows the demonic possession of a young girl and the attempt to rescue her through an exorcism by two Catholic priests.

That would be, of course, a devil with a bad cold. 😉
I don’t know if you want to count this Tourneur classic, since the baddie is called a “demon” and not Satan himself: [Night of the Demon/A.K.A. Curse of the Demon/A.K.A. Haunted](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050766/).

He’s a very nasty piece of work, in any event.

[_The Devil and Daniel Mouse_](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0262368/), which is an animated, anthropomorphic animal version of _The Devil and Daniel Webster_.

Billy Zane played a pretty nasty and disturbingly blase Devil figure called “The Collector” in the Tales from the Crypt Movie [Demon Knight](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114608/).

Billy always does well with the crazy bad guys.
