Yeah those episodes are heart wrenching. I did love that in “Bender’s Big Score,” Fry gets to go back and spend time with his dog and his brother.

Speaking of dogs, did nobody reference “Where the Red Fern Grows?” The book is more famous than the movie, but the movie is just as sad. I remember there’s a line that goes something like “Why did God kill my dogs?” Horrible, just horrible.

“The Mission,” [The Mission (1986 film) - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mission_%281986_film%29) always chokes me up a bit. A great movie.

The Buffy episode “The Body.” God, watching Dawn get the news about her mom is literally painful.

I watched _All Quiet on the Western Front_ this past weekend. I had a little something in my eye at the end of that.

The only film that gets me crying, is my favourite, Planes Trains and Automobiles.

Specifically, the end where Del has been left sitting in the train station and Neal is having flashbacks on the train home, his mind piecing together Del’s subtextual backstory, and, well, no spoilers, plus I can’t work out how you do a spoiler box, but if you’ve seen it you know what I mean.

I was under the understanding that there was a review board in Dallas, Texas where they review the list of movies that men can cry at.

I cried the first time I saw Jurassic Bark, but I never head a pet growing up so I think it would have punched more emotional punch if I had. Like others in the thread, I actually cried more at the end of the episode [Luck of the Fryrish](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luck_of_the_Fryrish), since I think I relate more to it. I didn’t have a great relationship with my sister as a teenager, there was only two years age difference and we had sibling rivalry, and now we appreciate each other more as adults.

I also cried during _Armageddon_, but not at the end. I teared up when they were heading out to the launch site and the kid saw his dad on tv ("hey, that salesman’s on tv!). I know it’s cheesy.

> His pursuit of revenge was ennobled by the last thing Count Rugo heard: “I want my father back, you son of a bitch!” I can’t even _type_ those words without sobbing a bit. Inigo’s revenge was the righteous anger of a son whose father was slaughtered in front of him. It is possible that it affects me especially deeply because my dad died of lung cancer when I was 16. I’m 50 now, and if he had never smoked, there is a reasonable chance that he would still be alive.

I can’t remember where I heard this, but apparently Mandy Patinkin’s father was dying of cancer during the making of the film, and he had just passed away prior to the final Count Rugen scene being shot. So this makes Inigo’s line even _more_ personal and poignant.

Very poignant indeed. Lester Patinkin indeed died of cancer, but in **1972** , at the age of 52 (second bullet point under “Family”):

_The Princess Bride_ was published _as a book_ in 1973. The movie was released in 1987.

Ah, okay, thanks. I came across this bit of trivia years ago. Maybe what I heard was that Patinkin was _thinking_ of his father while doing the scene, and how his father’s untimely death influenced his performance. It certainly would mine ☹

There’s a couple parts in the sequel I tear up at, mainly the scenes with Sam and his family around the climax of the film.

EDIT: I should say the sequel to the second movie, as I just realized you were talking about the original movie from 1985.
