The 2003 scuba diving film, [Open Water.](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374102/) (O.K., the rest of the tour boat lives, but I think they had maybe 5 lines of dialogue the whole movie?)

Type it like this : spoiler text here

which gives you:

John actually doesn’t die.

I don’t think it’s an accessible button in the post box.

The remake of Dawn Of The Dead has a short sequence after the credits which reveals every died.

The fate of the last survivor in _Dog Soldiers_ is left ambiguous, IIRC. He’s shown killing the last of the werewolves but whether or not he dies as well is left unstated.

Mildly surprised to see that nobody’s yet mentioned the 1972 eco-scifi film

Silent Running. Well, okay, some trees and bunny and a robot survive, but none of the human characters.

My first thought was the classic, zeitgeist-capturing 1969 end-of-the-hippy-dream biker movie:

The Green Berets

starring Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, and Dennis Hopper. It ushered in an age of films with downer endings, including _Electra Guide in Blue_, _Silent Running_, _Soldier Blue_, _Phase IV_, etc. _Phase IV_ had one of those endings in which there are no human characters left human at the end, although they’re still _alive_. As ant-human hybrids.

Thank God for the spoiler tag, eh? Without it people might guess what the film is. Nicholson’s character is stabbed, Hopper gets shot, Fonda is blown up. They blew it.

TV-wise there’s Blake’s Seven, although there’s some debate as to whether Vila (at least) survives. And the TV version of

Edge of Darkness

ended with the two heroes either dead or dying. And the human race as a whole is revealed to be living on borrowed time.

Well, by that standard, so is The Walking Dead.

Well, the real Colonel Shaw and all his men WERE killed and buried together in a mass grave. They were the subject of Robert Lowell’s great poem “For the Union Dead.”

_Reservoir Dogs_ … possibly. Every main character except Mr Pink definitely dies. It’s not entirely clear what happens to Mr Pink. He leaves the warehouse then there is gunfire and shouting outside, but it’s hard to make out any actual words.I’ve heard that Tarrantino intended for him to be captured alive. If so, he’d likely have ended up on death row.

Mr Orange’s cop buddy survives, but that’s just a minor character.

Real life spoiler:
This is a case where the real world was just a little less grim than the fiction, most of the regiment did die, but several survived like this solder:

The Mechanic from 1972, every named character is dead by the end.

In fact the final death before the credits made me say HAH 🙂 in a good way.

The background images in the closing credits imply that he sold his story to the tabloids, so I would say that he survived.

Does it count that I wanted Tom Hanks to die in _Castaway?_
