The other thread about movies that are too clever mentioned \*Pirates of the Carribbean: At World’s End \*.

Talk about a movie in need of an editior. A summer popcorn movie has no business being close to 3 hours long.

Reminds me - I stared watching lord of the rings at around 11:30am. I was still watching at 11:30pm.

And for about four more hours the following day.
The new Batman movie is very very good, but it IS a bit long.

Titanic. The technical aspects of that film were amazing, and I guess I can live with the concept of the Jack & Rose love story, but OMG did it take too long to set it up. By the time the two of them are ducking around the ship for about the millionth time, you just want that damn iceberg to show up.

_Death Becomes Her_, with Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep, and Bruce Willis.

It’s a wonderful concept, and the special effects are very cool, but for some reason, it draaaaaaaaags after Madeline and Helen die and Bruce Willis fixes them up.

I can’t figure it out, why the pace just slows way down.

I may have to sit through Batman tomorrow for Mr. K’s birthday. I really hate a long movie in a theater, even though everyone says it’s action-packed and well worth the pain of no cigarettes for that long. Keee-rist…I could fly to Vegas in almost the same amout of time!

But the Birthday boy gets to pick so I shall suffer in silence.

**Bedknobs and Broomsticks**

Disney tried to replicate the success of **Mary Poppins** , using the Sherman brothers songs and Terry-Thomas as a main actor. They still used a children’s book a featuring two kids and an interesting woman with a male friend, who interact with cartoon characters and go about in London. They got Angela Lansbury as the woman this time, playing a learn-by-mail witch.

it would’ve been quite good, except it desperately, desperately needed an editor to cut it down to manageable size. It has some great songs and some good art, but it’s way too damned long.

**Cheyenne Autumn** was interminable. Indians walking. It was grim; we get it.

Almost anything with Harvey Keitel in it.

I can never make it all the way through **Blade Runner** and **Mary Poppins**.

I’ve tried to watch them a couple different times and always fall asleep. I don’t dislike the movies, they’re just long and something about them knocks me out.

**The Brave Little Toaster** is about half an hour too long. Once the appliances survive the storm, the rest of the journey to the city just drags. The detour to the repair shop, the “welcome” they receive at the apartment, even the scene at the junkyard goes on and on…

(Although there is a great scene at the repair shop where the proprietor snips the power cord off of an old blender, and the Toaster and friends quickly and delicately reel in their cords. Any guy who has watched another guy get kicked in the crotch can empathize!)

**The Good Shepherd** which really wasn’t all that good but I swear, took me about a week to watch. I’d sit for a spell, take in a few scenes, pause, come back later and slog onward. A wholly unsatisfactory experience.

**A.I.** misfires in several directions but the fact that there are three distinct endings didn’t help. I am certain that the screen writers presented Speilberg with three different ways to wrap the film up and he decided aww let’s just go with all of them.

Still this one that bears repeating …

- And Braveheart. I was 8 months pregnant and after the second false ending I stood up and yelled “Just DIE Wallace!” Which got me escorted out, and I was crying because I was hormonal and uncomfortable, and it was a bloody horrible movie.\*

Copy, paste entire post, replacing \*Bedknobs and Broomsticks \*with _Chitty Chitty Bang Bang_, which clocks in at nearly two and a half hours.

Ok, in other threads I’ve said IMHO that “Dark Knight” and “Pirates II and III” are way too long and needed editing.
One that needs mentioning: Peter Jackson’s “King Kong”. Dang if there wasn’t a classic remake in there somewhere among the self-indulgence. Still worth seeing for the special effects of Kong, and the 1930s aura of the opening sequences, but my gosh its length just ruined it.

I’ve just located a still longer version of **Dances with Wolves** and I can’t wait to see it! I think this one if four hours instead of three.

How can a good movie be too long?

I watched _several_ hours of **Little Dorrit** and loved it!

Most of the new Judd Apatow spearheaded comedies are ruined by their length; Knocked up, Superbad, 40 year old virgin… all straying close to the 2hr mark. Just absolutley no need for that in comedies.
