I liked Forrest Gump, but DESPISED Good Will Hunting. I don’t see what was so good about it. I think Matt Damon and Ben Affleck must have sucked several yards of Hollywood cock to get that movie made. ---

Most of the ones I would have picked have been mentioned already, so I’ll just concur: Forrest Gump - Forrest wasn’t the only retarded element of this movie. I can’t believe I wasted 8 hours of my life (or however the hell long it was) on this crap. In fact, I’ll go a step further and just say any movie with Tom Hanks. Fight Club - I don’t care about the violence, it’s the middlebrow cliches trying to pass themselves off as highbrow “ideas” and “philosophical insights” that bothered me. Oh, and the lame-ass “twist” ending. 2001: A Space Odyssey - So boring I stopped watching after an hour. Didn’t think “Dr. Strangelove” was all that great, either - a bunch of stereotypes and an overly-obvious “message.” Star Wars - Really a very slooooooow-paced movie when you watch it now. And the plot was regurgitated from The Handbook Of Literary Themes. Liked it when I was seven, though. Anything by Oliver Stone. Anything with Julia Roberts (including “Erin Brokovich”). The Matrix - I went to see it in the theater and laughed out loud at the horrible dialogue and corny love story. A spectacle; sound and fury, signifying nothing. However, I am always baffled by people who claim “American Beauty” was a piece of crap. The only Academy Award-winning movie of the past 15 years that I thought deserved it. ---

Yet another person calling American Beauty a pile of crap. I haven’t met a single person IRL who agrees with me… Saving Private Ryan is also on the top of my movie shitlist. Along with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Uck. ---

For me, the most overrated movie (it won best picture, fercryinoutloud) was “Dances with Wolves.” As a director, Kevin Costner should be called “Plays with Cameras.” ---

**Rocky Horror:** Aside from the decent Meat Loaf video in the middle, it’s a stupid as hell movie. I’ve had friends try to defend it. It’s a waste of time, guys! **Forrest Gump:** I’m ambivelent on this one. I don’t see it as anti-intellectual, just pro-dumbf$sckingluck. I’m lucky in that I haven’t seen any of the rest of these. 😃 ---

Movies disliked here that I like: It’s a Wonderful Life The English Patient The Matrix Saving Private Ryan American Beauty Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Yes, we all have our opinions, but I found the acting tremendous, the direction stunning, and plot anything but idiotic. Beautiful, interesting movie. Now, movies I don’t like that the majority seem to: Braveheart (Mel the director: “Let’s see how many gruesome ways I can film Scottish fighters getting mortally wounded.”) Rocky (“Stella!” I mean, “Adrianne!”) I also had a problem with the wet t-shirt scene in As Good As It Gets. Gratuitous, definitely. And this movie would have been 100% better if Holly Hunter had accepted the role that Helen Hunt eventually got. (I am not a Helen Hunt fan.) Hey. I just realized that both actresses’ initials are HH. ---

I thought I was going to hate Fight Club so I put off seeing it until this past fall. But I thought it was awesome. Traffic gets my vote. I hated the blue/yellow filter tricks, the three plots didn’t connect well, and the only one I gave a damn about was the one with Michael Douglas. As one review I saw put it, “a star-studded after-school special” and “Steven Soderburgh takes 3 hours to tell us drugs are bad.” ---

This is truly amazing. I previously considered myself to be intelligent when it comes to film, but these posts have shown me I’m just a big follower who can’t form a single original opinion. Just kidding. I’ve attempted to watch **The English Patient** several times, and it has put me to sleep without fail, regardless of how tired I am. Add another vote for **Saving Private Ryan**. There were several very good battle scenes, but overall, the story is the weakest I’ve seen in an oscar-winning film in years. **Gladiator** was totally mediocre and offered absolutely nothing new or original whatsoever. Some cool gore and fight scenes, but deserving of only a “eh” And I have to defend a couple movies too: **Pleasantville** is in my top 5 of all time, and the preachiness is intended, as well as very effective. Subtlety would have been completely unfitting. **Traffic** was the best movie of last year. I’m a Soderbergh junkie, so maybe I’m biased, but I thought the color filters did a good job of applying a certain feel to each setting. Oh, and if anyone dares to mention **The Usual Suspects** , I will not hesitate to execute you in a very cold-blooded fashion. Have a nice day 🙂 ---

**Meet the Parents** tried too hard to be funny. It struck me as very trite. Everyone I know loved it, though. I was a thirteen-year-old girl when it was a staple for thirteen-year-old girls to see **Titanic**. I can boast that I have never seen that movie! I was ashamed for a while of the stereotype I was associated with. All over the media you would hear, “Titanic, the movie made big by thirteen-year-old girls…” Ick. **Notting Hill** was a piece of crap. Piece. Of. Crap. Basically any chick flick I hate. Most comedies too. And any movie aimed towards teenagers ( **American Pie** , **10 Things I Hate About You** , **Road Trip** , although I didn’t see that one…you know the drill). On the other hand, I really liked **RHPS**. I’ve seen it at least 20 times, but nowhere near the 1000 times that some people have. ---

_Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid_: I like Paul Newman and Robert Redford, but hate this movie. The “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” scene is nothing less than excrutiating to watch, and was a precursor of the Music Video interlude that has contaminated movies since the mid 80’s. _Fight Club_ and _The Usual Suspects_: Don’t hate them, but find them kind of blah. Didn’t see the twist endings coming, but didn’t care when they were revealed, sorta like in _Basic Instinct_. They all seemed like a screenwriting exercise in twist endings. _Full Metal Jacket_: Love the first half. Hate the second half. _The Shining_: Hated it. By badly miscasting Jack Nicholson, the haunted hotel setting is made moot. This is a movie that desperately needed an everyman type actor so that the hotel driving him crazy could have some dramatic impact. Loved the TV Mini-series version, though. But you can put me down as one of the minority here who likes _The English Patient_, though I don’t love it. Others listed that I love: _Saving Private Ryan_, _Pleasantville_ and _Field of Dreams_.
