I think some of the “period” pieces would be really difficult to improve on, both because it’d be near impossible to recapture the feel of the times and because, for some, they were so perfectly cast in the first place. The Day The Earth Stood Still comes to mind, as does Easy Rider. For some reason, westerns don’t have the same majesty now as those of the past. The Searchers should never be remade, nor should Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or The Wild Bunch. Some classics would just be butchered. Rear Window, North By Northwest, Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, Wait Until Dark… don’t even go there. ---
