Was I the only one who laughed my ass off all the way through this?

[Violent Cop](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098360/) and [Boiling Point](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098967/). They were playing in Brattle Square as a double feature in '99, and we went to see it thinking we were in for a night of John Woo-type action.

Takeshi Kitano is _ **not** _ John Woo.

I’ll echo others about Schindler’s List, and Saving Private Ryan. To carry on with the World War II theme, I plan never to see Sophie’s Choice again.

We didn’t know what we were watching either. We thought it was a _Narnia_ knockoff.

It made my husband cry.

Along with _Schindler’s List_ and _Saving Private Ryan_, I’ll add _A Simple Plan_. I saw it the day after I saw _Saving Private Ryan_. It was a downer of a week.

**Leaving Las Vegas.** Went to see this with a friend one evening, not really knowing what it was about. Great performances, amazing movie - but the rape scene stayed with me for a really long time, and as the daughter of an alcoholic I just can’t deal with the subject matter.

Um…Yeah most likely. Even if you aren’t a Christian, from a “oh my God they did that to human beings and _didn’t care_??” standpoint it’s a pretty freakin brutal film.

**Crash** is my movie. Saw it, thought it was good, don’t really need to see again.

Three movies that I understand are ‘good movies’, but all the huzzahs over their brilliance make me feel that I am all alone…

I Am Legend - had a bad feeling about this one from the first 5 minutes.
Pulp Fiction. Appalling scenes.
Fargo. Appalling scenes.

I agree with **Pan’s Labyrinth**.

I would like to add **Dancer in the Dark**. When I saw it, over half of the theater was sobbing at the end.

The Pianist, although I did end up sitting through about half of it a second time. I second Dancer in the Dark, and I think I’d add Pi. It’s probably a better movie than Requiem for a Dream anyway.

Excellent choice. I wish I hadn’t seen it the first time. Philip Seymour Hoffman will always be that guy to me, no matter how many Oscars he wins and how nice of a person he may be in real life.

_Memento_. An easy way to _remember_ the spelling of _Memento_ is that it has to do with _memory_. There’s no such word as “momento”; don’t know why I keep seeing that misspelling.

I came in to add _Affliction_. Wonderful performances, including James Coburn finally winning an Oscar. But the tragedy is just too raw and pathetic and believable.

I think that there is actually a movie called “Momento,” but I don’t know if that’s what he’s talking about.

I’ll add my vote for _Life is Beautiful._ Fabulous movie. I cried for a week.

And it’s why I will never watch _Schindler’s List_, _Saving Private Ryan_ or _Old Yeller_. I know the stories. I simply do not want to have scenes that I know exist indelibly etched in my memory. And I probably could have blithely lived my whole life in ignorant bliss of _Pan’s Labyrinth_, _Sophie’s Choice_ and _We Were Soldiers_.

Now, where did I put my rose-colored glasses?
