> Justified and The Dukes of Hazzard. Justified was supposed to be in Kentucky, the Dukes of Hazzard was supposed to be in Georgia. The first 5 episodes of Dukes were filmed in GA, the pilot of Justified was shot in PA. The filming of each show then moved to California, and you can tell with the dry scrubby mountains and lack of weeds and undergrowth. The Appalachian mountains are green and the landscape is a lot more lush.

Yes! This really bothered me with _Justified_ (I never watched Dukes). In a show where the land isn’t such a part of the show’s soul, it wouldn’t matter so much. But _Justified_ is full of location-establishment shots where cars are driving up roads into hollers, or people are scrambling through the wilderness, and if you know Appalachia it’s completely ridiculous to think that these shots are in Kentucky. _There’s no sagebrush in Kentucky hollers y’all._

I loved the show otherwise, but every establishing shot completely took me out of the show and made me wonder why they didn’t pay a crew to fly to Appalachia and spend two weeks shooting enough “car drives through the holler” shots to last the whole series.

While you are in town imagine hopping on your little stingray bicycles at the Goonies house in Astoria and riding them to Ecola State Park above Cannon Beach where the pirate scenes were filmed. Yeah, that ain’t going to happen.

Did that hike about 10 years ago with my grand daughters. Got all the way up there and realized I forgot my camera in my car. Wanted to get a picture of the Tillamook Lighthouse. Also got a $25 citation for not buying a $10 Oregon state parks parking pass. Bought one in Seaside a few months ago, going to use it again next week when we visit the Astoria area.

Enjoy your visit! I am fortunate to live right there, about 10 miles inland from Astoria where I get away from the coastal fog. Beautful area if you like the outdoors, and if you don’t the urban areas like Portland is only another hour away.

NW Oregon. River, ocean, mountains, forest, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, and in a few hours you can be in the high desert. I can actually go razor clam digging on the coast in the morning and go skiing on Mt Hood in the afternoon of the same day. I never wish to live anywhere else.

I just heard last night that **Hocus Pocus 2** had its premiere in Rhode Island, because that’s where it was filmed. As I mentioned upthread, they film a few scenes in Salem, MA for the original (mostly establishing shots), but Salem is just too small, cramped, and tourist-laden to be a good filming location. It’s possible they filmed a couple of shots for the sequel there, but I doubt it.

Well, I did go to a decent Cajun restaurant in Seattle once …

if I’m remembering correctly, there was/is a center in Seattle for treatment and study of Usher Syndrome, a genetic disorder causing deafness and blindness common in the Cajun population. Danny Delcambre had the disorder and was the chef and owner of the Ragin’ Cajun at the Market.

Two Dagos from Texas? I seem to remember having good blackened salmon there.

> _The Americans_ was set in Washington, DC, but mostly filmed in New York. But I’m not familiar enough with the DC area to say whether it looks right.

Nothing looked out of place to me.

The Jennings home and the home that Stan lived in are actually in New York (as you said, most of it was filmed there). Most homes in the Falls Church area are either single family homes or row homes, but there are some duplex homes in the area that are similar to the homes used in the show. They aren’t common, but they do exist.

The city streets also looked like parts of DC. I was kinda surprised that they didn’t film the outdoor city scenes in DC. It looked like DC to me.

Overall I think they did a pretty good job.

It was near the little National Park Service gold rush museum. And I said Cajun. Blackened anything is not Cajun. Never saw it at any place in SW Louisiana when I lived there before the “Cajun” boom.
Not that I don’t like blackened dishes, just that people think they are traditional Cajun food for some reason.

That would have been the imaginatively named New Orleans Creole Restaurant. Despite the name, they tried to cover all the hits of _both_ Cajun and Creole menus.

That rings a bell. And IIRC, they knew the difference, which is not always the case.

TDfT, from what I recall, billed itself as Cajun, whether it was authentic or not. It was in Belltown.
