Movies/TV that could, be in the same universe as each other

I’m gonna go ahead and say the Dollars Trilogy all take place in the same setting, following Clint’s character as he keeps changing aliases. I only say this because I’ve run into folks who claim they are only thematically related and that Joe, Manco, and Blondie are in fact different people (despite, you know, wearing the same outfit, but I guess there aren’t a wide variety of clothing retail stores around the Frontera.

Anime-wise, there is some absurd number of animes that all take place in the same multi-verse as Tenchi Muyo. Some shows (Such as Tenchi GXP) explicitly share the same direct continuity with the OAV series, others are basically alternate universes (such as Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, etc.) and others seem to be a few more universes removed but are supposedly still part of canon (Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure).

It doesn’t help that the Tenchi franchise is thick with alternate universes in-canon (such premise was the source of a hysterical two-part episode of Tenchi Universe where they kept hopping universes, changing the premise and genre of the show every five minutes or so)

Kingdom Hearts …

There is a definite nod to that theory in Captain America 2. Won’t say any more, you’ll know it when you see it
Also, whenever I watch Pulp Fiction, I always start thinking that Butch is Daredevil’s Dad (except that he survives)

I read a theory that Alfred in Batman is a retired James Bond, hence all his knowledge of gadgets etc

In the same vein, it is strongly implied in ‘The Rock’ that Sean Connery’s character John Mason is James Bond in all but name

I think of all the Charles-Burrows-Charles TV shows as the same universe: Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Bob Newhart, Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, probably others. Some of the characters cross over. Some of the same actors play different characters in different shows, but that’s just the rigors of production realities.

Also perhaps Eerie, Indiana?

Which reminds me that Paul on Mad About You used to live across the hall from Kramer on Seinfeld. And that Phoebe from Friends has a twin sister named Ursula (also played by Lisa Kudrow), who is a waitress at the diner frequented by Paul and Jamie Buchman (again, Mad About You), so Seinfeld, Friends, and Mad About You all exist in the same universe.

Now that I think about it, didn’t Mad About You once have Carl Reiner appear as Alan Brady, from Dick Van Dyke?

And they once, in a throwaway/end credits gag, had the cast of Laugh-In appear.

David Schwimmer appeared on The Single Guy as Ross Gellar.

Chandler Bing appeared in Caroline in the City, while Caroline (played by Lea Thompson) appeared in an episode of Friends.

Norm Peterson (played by George Wendt) and Cliff Clavin (played by John Ratzenberger) of Cheers fame appeared on an episode of Wings. Dr’s. Frasier and Lilith Crane, then of Cheers fame also appeared on another episode of Wings.

Many of the characters formerly of Cheers have appeared on the spinoff Frasier.
In an episode of St. Elsewhere, some of the doctors have a drink at Cheers.

Dr. Frasier Crane of Frasier appears on an episode of The John Larroquette Show.

Daphne Moon and Niles Crane appear on an episode of Caroline in the City.

Tim Daly appeared as himself on an episode of Monk, and made reference to his sitcom Wings. The actor the plays Adrian Monk, Tony Shaloub, played Antonio on Wings. Wings had several characters from Cheers who made appearances. Which puts Monk, Wings, Cheers, Frasier, Caroline in the City, The John Larroquette Show, The Single Guy, and Saint Elsewhere all in the same universe.

And, since virtually every show can be linked to St Elsewhere

…And, given the New England reference above, perhaps most of Stephen king’s works…

I suspect that Scrubs, Allie McBeal, and How I Met Your Mother are all in the same universe. And yes, I am aware of the Sarah Chalke problem.

The rats in Ratatouille were descended from rats that escaped from the French version of N.I.M.H.

All the Disney female heroine fairy tale stories are in the same “Disney Princesses” continuity. They routinely make guest apperances in each others’ television material on the Disney channel.

Being the father of 3-year-old and 8-year-old girls has taught me much about Disney princesses. Waaaay too much. :smack:

Event Horizon has been posited as a “spiritual prequel” to the Warhammer 40,000 gaming milieu by the fandom of the latter game. Perhaps an unofficial part of the pre-history of the game setting.

Let’s not confuse shout-outs to cross-overs.

After all, there’s a Firefly-class transport shown briefly in the Battlestar Galactica reboot, as well as the NCC-1701/USS Enterprise (of Star Trek - The Original Series fame) in the rag-tag fleet fleeing the Cylons (shown once, blink and you’ll miss it).

Doesn’t mean they’re all in the same universe.

Although…it would be interesting if the distant descendants of the Firefly universe became the 12 Colonies of BSG, and that old Firefly-class transport seen flying overhead in the BSG mini-series is a really, really old ship.

Bigger shout out in the latest Captain America movie:

[spoiler] Ezekiel 25:17, “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.” that was paraphrased by Jules in Pulp Fiction before shooting the gang rivals, was engraved in the grave stone of Nick Fury.

Jules/Nick gets better and he really roams the earth now.
