Inspired by a current thread about profanities, I was trying to come up with major films (not small budget indies, as they are more daring) where a well known actor (not a bit player) uses the word cunt. Is it really that rare or is my meomory that bad? The only one I can recall is Mena Suvari saying it in American Beauty- I remember finding it very sexy indeed. Can anyone provide other examples, and perhaps the earliest example? I would guess it would have to be late 1960’s at the earliest.

You stupid fuckin’ cunt.

You, Williamson; I’m talkin’ to you, shithead.

You just cost me six thousand dollars.

Six thousand dollars…and one Cadillac. That’s right. What are you gonna do about it? What are you gonna do about it, asshole, you fuckin’ shit? _Where did ya learn your trade, ya stupid fuckin’ cunt, you idiot?_ Who ever told you that you could work with \*men? \*

- Al Pacino, in Glengarry Glen Ross. Amazing monolog. Just mind-blowing.

By the way, **Don Logan,** is your username a reference to Sexy Beast? If it is, good, I like that movie.

I just (finally) saw _Trainspotting_ last night, and the word was used very regularly. Apparently, in Scotland, it’s quite common to call a man that word.

And I still can’t get the image of that baby out of my head. ☹

good point **trublmkr** , I should have specified US films, as in the UK and other places it is used differently and does not have the level of offensiveness it has in the US\>

**trublmakr** , there have been big rows on the boards about the transatlantic usage differences of that word. Over here in the UK, it has a totally different cachet to the States. It’s rude as hell, but very common, and a guy thing - like calling someone a prick or a cock - and is almost never used to insult a woman.

I totally agree about Ben Kingsley’s missing Oscar. That was one of the most intense ‘supporting role’ performances I’ve ever seen.

My contribution, though it contravenes the “no indy” rule - but then again so do the other movies mentioned - is _Withnail & I_, with Richard E. Grant’s classic: “Monty you TERRIBLE CUNT!” Some of our friends use “TC” as a term of endearmnt now.

Lecter didn’t say it, Miggs did. He was in the next cell over from Lecter, I believe. Clarice (Jodie Foster) repeated it to Lecter, I think.

I believe “cunt” is in the process of becoming an archaic term in the US. It’s not so much that it’s terrible, it’s just kinda old-fashioned nowadays. I believe the “in-term” as the young people call it is, “lovely lady lumps.”

Jack Nicholson (again) in **Carnal Knowledge** , 1971.

Dunno if that would count or not. But it is sooner. 😛

It’s used several times in “Saturday Night Fever.” A sample quote by Travolta is on the page given below. The main difference between the “R” and “PG” versions is the inclusion of this word.
