Movies where ten years adds (or subtracts) at least one * in ratings

Please forgive me if that’s not meant to be the ultimate putdown, but I can’t help but laugh at how skillfully you have skewered that movie. It puts the tin lid on “damned with faint praise” and makes the Marc Antony eulogy for Julius Caesar sound like a major dis.

Field of Dreams - ADD a star…A timeless piece where baseball and reconciling a damaged father/son relationship that was so reverently acted out that never gets old…the only thing that gives away it’s age is the Volkswagon Bus that Ray (Cosner) drives around. No edgy (at the time) special effects that turn cheesy after a few years…just good acting, good script, and good emotional nuances.

Who else keeps reading this as “Movies where ten year olds add or subtract at least one * in ratings”? In which case, I’d nominate “Master of Disguises” in the “add” column. Man, the worst movie I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen Dungeons and Dragons), but my then-10 sister loved it.

;), Zeldar.

Interestingly, Caveman was the first time I’d ever heard the word “caca.”

Love Story–what a horrible, shallow movie. But it was huge when it came out and I believe it won an Oscar. No stars for me. (never had any for me)
Flashdance–a movie so popular it changed fashion and dancing. But now? It’s evocative of its time, but that’s about it… One star, for nostalgia only. (down from 2)
The Pink Panther movies–I loved, loved these as a kid, but now they move so slow. Down to one star from 3.

Ditto to* Blazing Saddles*–it was edgy and outrageous at the time, but now? meh. From 2 to one star for me.

Oh, I finally have an actual reply to the OP to contribute:

The Apple Dumpling Gang. As a child (even the randy little child that I was), I’m sure the romance stuff between Dusty and Donovan sailed right over my head, but when I watch the movie now, it’s endearing to see how he wins her heart, which in my mind probably adds at least half a star.
