Another might be _Happiness_. Who in that is not a douche?

What? Nah.

My only experience with Harry Potter was the first movie. I didn’t read any of the books and have not seen any of the subsequent films. The only thing I remember from it was that Harry was willing to sacrifice his friend’s life in a game of chess so that he could get into some sort of AP classes. Pure douche.

Umm - no. Thanks for playing, we have a lovely box of Rice-A-Roni for you (the real San Francisco treat) and a year’s supply of turtle wax. As well as “Total Douche” the home edition.

😃

I assume this was actually a douche woosh. Og, I hope so.

_Payback_, with Mel Gibson. Everyone is a proverbial bad guy, even the good guy.

_Sideways_ was the first thing that came to mind. Both Paul Giamati and Thomas Haden Church’s characters were completely self-absorbed douches.

Yeah the antagonist is real douche also, and they do change somewhat over the course of the movie. But, come on, going to weddings under false identities for the sole purpose of picking up chicks (and wearing Purple Hearts to get free drinks)? Douchey in the extreme.
> What are other movies where the good guys are d-bags?

The douche seems to be the typical character for Vince Vaughn. The first movie I saw him in was Swingers and then he seemed to play the same character in the movies that came out after that.

Vince was a douche in the Lost World, but I think we were meant to think he was a cool guy for being all Greenpeace and anti corporation. But it was his idea to free the dinosaurs which resulted in everyone being stranded on the island!

Nah. They were just a bunch of kids who had all these rules for dealing with the infected that those who got infected cried about.

You left someone’s house in the middle of it (it was released direct-to-DVD)? That’s cold. But if you must know…

Chris Pine and his girlfriend both bite it. Younger brother and the girl who won’t speak to him survive. He mopes at the end because she won’t speak to him (and it’s hinted she left in the car when his back was turned).

_The Blair Witch Project_. After a just a few minutes I assumed all those characters would get killed and some likeable characters would enter the story.

Seth rogen in observe and report has no redeeming qualities. Nor does deniro in taxi driver, the obvious inspiration for the movie.

Observe and Report is a good example. I have a friend who used to work security and judging from what he’s told me a person like Rogen would be a major lawsuit waiting to happen. A lot of times these guys aren’t even allowed to touch you.

Yeah, this is what gets me when someone trots out “none of the characters were likeable” as some kind of proof that a movie is bad, like they read somewhere that every movie has to have some sympathetic character for the audience to identify with. That’s far too simplistic a view.

Think of most of the best dark comedies: _ **Showgirls, Really Bad Things, Citizen Ruth,** _ etc. And some classic films, like \*\*\*Hud \*\*\*or _ **The Searchers** _.

Help!

I thought I knew what a _douche_ was, but now I’m not sure anymore. I thought it meant not just any self-absorbed asshole but one with a streak of gutlessness that becomes apparent in disingenuous actions. Am I wrong?

Memento. He might seem likable enough, but if you think about what he’s actually doing and how he got there, you realize that he’s sort of the villain of the story.
