# Movies with skeletons wielding swords

How many can you think of? I can’t think of any for sure.
Maybe _Army of Darkness_ (?), but I haven’t seen it in a really long time. Ditto _The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys_ - I can’t remember if Skeleton Boy has a sword or not.
Maybe some old _Sinbad_ movies? I used to watch these on tv as a kid, but I doubt they show them much anymore and I wouldn’t know where to find them on DVD (or if they’ve even been released in that format.)
Bonus points if they’re carrying shields and wearing viking helmets. Half points if it’s a tv show or some other medium.

Harryhausen’s [Jason and the Argonauts](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057197/) seems to me to be the classic skeletons with swords movie.

[The 7th Voyage of Sinbad](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051337/) in particular has a skeleton with a sword. It is available on DVD. I believe that it is the first appearance of the Harryhausen sword-wielding skeleton which, as was mentioned above, is probably best known from Jason and the Argonauts.

A lot **Spy Kids 2** , especially the creatures on the island, are a homage to Harryhausen: the CGI is even jiggered to look like stop-motion animation. And there is, of course, a fight with a group of skeletons.

I think almost any movie would be improved by the addition of skeletons wielding swords.
**Gone with the Wind** : Scarlett and Melanie are holed up in Tara, waiting for Rhett to come rescue them after the fall of Atlanta . . . When skeletons wielding swords rise up and conquer Sherman’s advancing troops!
**Babes on Broadway** : Mickey and Judy’s show can’t get a producer, when Judy has an idea: “I know! My dad’s got a barnful of skeletons wielding swords! _That’ll_ wow the producers!”
**Valley of the Dolls** : “They say I’m difficult, they say I’m drunk, even when I’m not. Sure, I take dolls, 'cause I’ve gotta get up at five o’clock in the morning and ‘Sparkle, Neely, sparkle!’ That psychiatrist says that I’m self destructive. So what? What do I do about it? Well, the hell with all of 'em. I got my army of skeletons wielding swords, and that’s all any actress needs!”

There was an episode of Rosanne Barr’s saturday morning cartoon that had some in a fantasy sequence.
And, of course, _Army of Darkness_ did indeed have a LOT of sword-wielding skeletons, complete with the “angry eyebrow” skull ridge from _Argonauts_. 🆒

Ok, I knew _Army of Darkness_ had skeletons, but I couldn’t remember if they were sword-wielding or not. I’m going to have to re-watch it now.

**Desk Set** - network head of reference Katharine Hepburn is incensed when Spencer Tracy wants to replace her skilled librarian staff with skeletons wielding sword. It all comes down to whether the king of the Watusis drives a car, with La Hepburn’s crew saving the day after the skeletons have slaughtered the person asking the question during the reference interview.
**The Yearling** - a tearjerker in which a really awful child actor living in the Everglades brings home a sword wielding skeleton to his frigid mother, who has just divorced Ronald Reagan.

I wached this last weekend and _Mysterious Island_ today. I think I’m becoming quite a Harryhausen fan.
I’m still trying to find _Jason and the Argonauts_. Neither the public library nor the nearest Hollywood Video have it.
