The forgettable 1993 comedy _Mr. Nanny_ opens with a montage of Hulk Hogan riding his motorcycle through Palm Beach… and happens to catch a man who probably didn’t know he was on film throwing a dog into the lagoon. The movie was [_Train Man_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Densha_Otoko_(film)) (Densha Otoko), a Japanese film. In it a nerdy young man is riding on a train. A drunken man starts harassing two women and, against all type and instincts, he stands up for them and struggles long enough for the drunk to be taken in charge by the police. They ask for statements from the three of them and the older woman thanks him and is done but the younger, very attractive one, asks for his address so she can thank him properly. A few days later a package arrives with an expensive tea set in it and he’s flabbergasted. He contacts his circle of online friends about whether she means more than a mere thank you and eventually comes out of his shell. The WTF moment was at the end, the same scene is done again but with different actors and a slightly different result. It turned out the franchise also had an 11-episode TV series about it and they were the actors from the series. ---

In **Oddity** , when Darcy is confronting Ted about what she knows, she’s kneeling on the floor with what looks like a wedding band. Based on the story, it would make sense that it’s Ted’s, but it’s way oversized for a human finger, we don’t know how she would have gotten it - though that’s fairly explainable, I guess - and we’re led to believe she got the whole truth from the the glass eye of a deceased character so it’s puzzling why she would need it. Excellent movie, btw. ---

No mention of the Nicholas Cage remake of **The Wicker Man**? I came into the middle of the film while my wife was watching it. Seemed like a regular old mystery police procedural with Cage looking for his daughter on some creepy island. Then like the last 30 minutes or so it goes completely off the rails. Cage roundhouse kicking Leelee Sobieski in the stomach. Cage punching a woman in a bear suit. Cage in a bear suit punching women. Cage brandishing his service pistol stealing bicycles. And Cage finally meeting his end with THE BEES!!! NOO!! NOT THE BEES!!! ---

I know you have some pretty stringent requirements as to what qualifies for your threads in general, and are quick to blast them.. My two are: 1. Ice Pirates. There is a scene in the bar that shows a parrot that is devoid of all feathers. I have never thought anything but the fact that the filmmakers plucked that parrot for that scene. It would be one thing, but if you look at that parrot’s eyes in that scene, you can tell that in it’s eyes it is not a happy bird. This scene really broke my heart and the terrible thing is that it is a real parrot. I cannot see any positive explanation for this and it doesn’t do anything whatsoever for the film. 2. The Lobster: the dog killing scene. I dropped out at that scene. I get that it was supposed to be a “test” and shit, but I was done after that. I’m not sure what happened after that, and I’m not sure I care. ---

“Captain January needs all his people.” It’s not in the same category as some of the other answers but it made me go WTF every time I watch _Full Metal Jacket._ The line is delivered in a way that makes it seem that Captain January is important. Did I miss something in Marine lore? Is Captain January some sort of mythical character from Marine tradition? Is it assumed I’m supposed to know who that is? In 1987 I had no way of finding out. Later when it occurred to me to look I did find the answer. Captain January was edited out of the final cut. There was a long scene filmed that Kubrick cut because he realized it didn’t work. All references except that one were scrubbed from the film. I can’t help but feel like it was a mistake to leave that in because of the emphasis the actor puts on the name. To a lesser extent it’s a WTF that everyone has a nickname. Everyone is assigned a nickname. Everyone is referred to by their nickname. Everyone introduces themselves by their nickname.
