Movies mentioned I feel in no way guilty about liking…

Clue
Enemy Mine
Galaxy Quest
Big Trouble in Little China

A little guilty…

Mystery Men
Mom and Dad Save the World (Oh Marge, Oh Marge, my love for you is… large)

New to the list…

Dude Where’s My Car? (The scene between Brent Spiner and Andy Dick is hilarious)

I _loved_ the first **Charlie’s Angels** with Barrymore, Diaz and Liu! So much so, that the sequel sucked even more for me. The first one, though campy (nothing wrong with campy if it’s intended, and done well), actually had an enjoyable plot and great characters (loved The Thin Man). I could only stand the second one by sitting back and pretending I was watching two hours of music videos.

I also really like **Judge Dredd** with Sylvester Stallone. I’ve watched it on television several times now. (They show it a lot.) I do understand why the film would be seen as wretched by fans of Judge Dredd, but even if I was a fan of the comics, I’d still enjoy the movie as a movie. Also, I’m partial to Rob Schneider, so I’ll admit to enjoying most of the stuff he’s done. (Usually Adam Sandler films, but I like him too.)

It’s been mentioned repeatedly so far, but I’ll also admit to enjoying **Starship Troopers**. (Love that co-ed shower! 😉 ) And, as with **Judge Dredd** , even if I was a fan of the source material, I’d still like the film as a film.

And, _finally_ (here’s the big one), I haven’t seen **Battlefield Earth** again since seeing it in the theatre, but I really liked it. So much so, that I’m fairly certain that I’d enjoy it a second time. I couldn’t understand why people hated it so much. The only thing I could guess was that it wasn’t very honest to the source material, but I’m not sure if that’s the case. People seemed to think it was supposed to be a deep, serious, “science fiction” epic, when even John Travolta admitted that it was a simple, fun, “sci-fi” adventure.

One more, just for the halibut. I love movies, no matter the genre or intended audience. Unfortunately, I prefer not to go the theatre alone (and haven’t rented a movie in years; I love the “theatre experience”), and I don’t have many people to go to the movies with. So, I’m relegated to seeing family films and so-called “chick flicks” with my mother or sister. (And even then, it’s hard to convince them to see more than a few choice animated films.) Hardcore action films I can see with my father and friend. And horror with my friend alone.

That said, I _loved_ **Under The Tuscan Sun**. In fact, acknowledging the subject of this thread, I’m not ashamed to admit that it’s one of my favorite films of the year and counting. Some of my other favorites of 2003 - **Kill Bill, Vol. 1** , **The Last Samurai** , **Master and Commander** , and **Pirates of the Caribbean**. Does **Under The Tuscan Sun** stick out in that crowd? (Okay, I also really liked **Elf**.)

Anyhoo…

Oh, yes! I thought **Dude, Where’s My Car?** was genius. I see it as a new generation’s **Bill & Ted** , which was very popular when I was in junior high. (Of course, I must admit, I don’t really know how popular **Dude** really is/was with today’s high schoolers.) I’m sad that there will probably never be a sequel, at least with the same actors (despite all the rumours). Scott and Kutcher don’t seem very interested in returning to straight-up comedy for a while. Action and drama it is, then.

Anyhoo…

I also like **Bedazzled.**
Just thinking of the line “His next book will win a POOLITZER, and it hasn’t even been POOBLISHED yet!” makes me laugh. It might not be exact though.

**My Boyfriend’s Back** is also one I like.

**Red Dawn** is just awesome!! WOLVERINES!!!

Just wanted to mention that I liked (and own) both **Rush Hour** movies, but every time I watch them I get the mildly nagging feeling that they could have been _outrageously_ hilarious if there was a little more work on the script…

On the other hand, I get a goof just showing **Rush Hour II** to my parents (who are not movie people) and letting them play “Name that Hong Kong locale.” 😉

Ones that haven’t been mentioned:

**Event Horizon**
**Phantoms**

and…
wait for it…

**The Postman**

I _loved_ this movie! I can’t understand why people don’t like it.

Don’t worry, I still hated **Waterworld**.

\*\*Pee Wee’s big Adventure \*\* is nothing short of pure brilliance.

Pee Wee standing in a phone booth in Texas trying to explain to someone that he is in Texas.

Shouting, " The Stars at Night Shine so bright!"

Crowd of texas strangers, clapping in unison, " Deep in the Heart of Texas!"
**Fandango** I have thought for years that I was the only one who has ever seen this movie. It is the yummiest of Kevin Costner that you’ll ever see.

“We could see the donkey lady.”
" We could get diseases."

I liked **Joe vs. The Volcano** except for the way it kept showcasing Meg Ryan’s ability to play different characters…and she really doesn’t have the ability to play different characters.

I love **Galaxy Quest** and **Mystery Men**. I had no idea **From Dusk Til Dawn** was SUPPOSED to be a guilty pleasure; I just love it.

The ones I suppose I _should_ be ashamed of are the cheesy teen movies I can’t seem to get enough of - **Can’t Hardly Wait** , **10 Things I Hate About You** , **Clueless** , **Legally Blonde** …

I’m a Heinlein fan and I still liked **Starship Troopers**. The first time Tark and I went on a date (which wasn’t actually supposed to be a date, as I had a boyfriend at the time…OOPS!) we saw **The Last Boy Scout** , and I enjoyed it.

There are a bunch of movies I’ve seen in this thread that I would think are too obscure to be essentially “Movies that should be guilty pleasures but aren’t,” like **Brain Donors**. That’s a GREAT movie!

Many people are bringing up other movies I like, and I’m thinking… “Why would _anyone_ be ashamed to like this?”

Like _Brain Donors_, _Mystery Men_, \*Galaxy Quest \* … \*Galaxy Quest \* was even successful at the Box office.

I thought of another one of my own, though.

_Jesus Christ : Vampire Hunter_. Yes, it’s a B-movie. I _like_ B-Movies. Especially B-Movies that don’t take themselves seriously.

Many good shows listed that most people didn’t like.

Someone mentioned \*\* The Postman \*\*

I also liked that show also but it was univerally hated. The book by David Brin (a favorite author) is also good.

I could I forget **Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure**. Loved that show.

Didn’t like **Joe Versus the Volcano** when I first saw it but now I own the video. Good show 🙂

**Time Bandits** wasn’t well liked by critics and most everyone…anyone here like it?

The **Wayne’s World** movies. Both of them.

“Oops, I dropped my pen. Did you ever seen that Twilight Zone where the guy signed a contract and they cut out his tongue and put it in a jar and it wouldn’t die, it just grew and pulsated and gave birth to baby tongues? Pretty cool, huh?”

My movies:

**Strange Brew**. I loves me some Bob and Doug.
I kinda like **Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves**. Yes, the Kevin Costner one.
And **L.A. Story** is also a favorite. But I’m not really embarrased about that one.

Oooo-ooo, sorry for the double post, but I just remembered one.

Did anyone else see \*\*[Battle Beyond the Stars](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080421/)? It’s sort of a tongue-in-cheek Magnificent Seven in Outer Space, with humans and aliens as the heroes. Cast included Robert Vaughn, Richard Thomas, and George Peppard (as the Space Cowboy).

Two of the alien characters are the Kelvin, who communicate by radiating heat. My favorite scene was the night before the big battle, where everyone is sitting around and thinking about what’s to come. The Space Cowboy is playing a lonesome tune on the harmonica, and two other characters are roasting hotdogs over the Kelvin, who are happily sitting back-to-back, radiating heat.

(Scene retold from memory–haven’t seen the movie in years, alas.)
