_Lost in Translation_.

Boring and obnoxious, with a whiny lead who’s clearly a Mary Sue for the overrated scriptwriter.

**Apocolypse Now** - I just don’t “get” it. It must be me.

**Forrest Gump** - here’s one character I could never give a crap about.

**Pulp Fiction** - Couldn’t even watch the whole thing.

**Anything with Jim Carey** - Self explanatory.

I don’t really even watch movies much anymore, except for on TV. I just can’t work myself up enough to care - they’ve been that compelling.

Yeah, sign me up for some of that. I can’t even stand _looking_ at him, let alone watch him or listen to him in a movie.

Also:

_The Princess Bride_: Everybody I know loves this movie. I’ve tried to watch it twice and fallen asleep both times. I don’t think I’m going to try again.

_Napoleon Dynamite_: I made it through this one, but when it was over I just found myself wondering, ‘why did I just waste an hour and a half watching this?’ The only thing I even vaguely enjoyed about it was some of the quotes (like “Do the chickens have large talons?”)

Anything with Jim Carrey in it except _The Truman Show_, which I quite liked.

I know I’m going to have to turn in my geek card for admitting this one, but: The Monty Python films. I don’t hate them, and if somebody made me sit down and watch one (except _The Meaning of Life_, since I refuse to voluntarily watch anything with vomiting in it other than “House”) I would probably chuckle a few times, but I just don’t think they’re the massively quoteworthy works of genius that most of my fellow geeks do.

How about one I haven’t seen that everybody loves? I’ve pretty much refused to see _Serenity_ because I just get so tired of everybody I know (online or in real life) blathering on about how good it is, how Joss Whatsisface is such a genius, etc. It’s like they look at me accusingly because I _haven’t_ seen it. I’m just stubborn enough to avoid it for that reason alone, but the truth is that it just doesn’t look all that interesting to me. Ditto _Firefly_.

_Rushmore_
_Royal Tenenbaums_
(I don’t like Wes Anderson movies, I suppose).
_Election_

Rushmore and Election came out around the same time, and there were other movies with the same mien, and I didn’t like any of them. And I usually dig movies that are less mainstream. I love _Napoleon_ for example, though it’s not a great movie.

Oh–I can’t believe I forgot this one in my post above.

I can’t _stand_ **A Christmas Story**. I simply don’t see what anyone sees in this movie–it’s boring, tedious, the kid has absolutely no charisma to carry a film, and it annoys me that you can’t turn on the TV from about mid-November until Christmas without stumbling onto a showing of this (unless **It’s a Wonderful Life** is on, but I don’t really like that one either). Except for my spouse, who feels the same way I do, I have never met another person who dislikes **A Christmas Story**. I think I was missing the day they handed out whatever makes people enjoy this movie.

Bah, humbug! 🙂
**Pulp Fiction**.

I couldn’t even finish watching it. It was gratuitously violent and profane, I do not identify with drug abusers, and it seemed disjointed and pointless. I gave up when Christopher Walken was explaining to some kid about a pocket watch.
Wow, that’s exactly when I bailed on it, too.

I’d say _Lost in Translation_, _The Royal Tenenbaums_, and _About Schmidt_ really disappointed me a lot, too.

You’re missing the point entirely
Shrek 1: “Anyone can find love, even those who don’t think they’re worthy.”
Shrek 2: “You don’t have to be perfect or change yourself to be loved.”
Both: “It’s about what’s inside.” (Yeah, it’s corny, but not hateful.)

I’ll restrict myself to this: My deepest and most unabiding hatred is held for **The Ring**. Never before or since have I so truly felt that I wasted hours of my life. The characters sucked. I was treated the acting talents of Not Nicole Kidman, Not Ed Burns and Sickly 5th Grader Doing a Piss-poor Impression of the Sixth Sense Kid. The plot sucked. While many details and special effects were cool, few were woven cohesively (or at all) into the story. I like the idea of vengeful ghosts, just not ones that kill you from the VCR. I find that about as plausible and scary as [this](http://www.actarus.it/public/recensioni/normali/ghoulies.jpg) this little nugget.

Do you know what the “ring” is? It’s a fucking well. A _well_. Fine. I’ll stomach that. It at least makes sense.

But why, WHY, for God’s sake, would you include the dialogue, “I wonder how long you can survive at the bottom of a well?”
Me, in the theater: :smack: Ugh, seven days!
The people sitting behind me _didn’t see it coming_.

What a fucking terrible, terrible movie. I would’ve walked out if I’d been driving.

All of the **Lord of the Rings** movies and **Harry Potter** movies. I just don’t get it. The Rings movies were torturously slow and boring, and the Potter movies are all about a bunch of snot-nosed kids who can turn into newts. Yawn.

**Saving Private Ryan** I am the only person in the world who hates this movie because of the last 30 minutes, rather than the first. I went into it having heard how horrible the first 30 minutes were, but I thought they were extremely well done and did the best job I’ve ever seen of showing the true horrors of war. But I’ve never heard anyone else complain that the movie went into the toilet in the last 30 minutes. Gee, everyone we’ve come to know dies, in the worst most bloody ways possible, and oh look, the lesson of compassion is turned upside-down as the german that was let go gleefully kills the person who showed him mercy. The worst, and I mean WORST 30 minutes of war movie ever put on film!

**Forrest Gump** Again, I am the only person the world who noticed that, with one exception, every single person that Forrest ever cared about DIES in that movie!

**Pulp Fiction** My number one, all-time, worst movie that I’ve ever seen in forty years of seeing movies. I literally would rather have a root canal with no novacaine than see this steaming pile of excrement again.

Honorable mentions:
**E.T.** I just thought it was dumb.

**Citizen Kane** I agree with the previous poster. Ok, it was ground-breaking for its day, but movies have progressed since then, and it just doesn’t stand up as the greatest movie ever made against everything that’s come since, even if you buy that all or most of those wouldn’t be what they are without the ground-breakingness of **Citizen Kane**.

To the people who don’t like The Princess Bride, did you see it as an adult or as a child? I’d say it’s really a kids movie, and most of the adults who like it (myself included) like it because of how much they remember enjoying it as kids.

not exactly one that everyone love but I…

I saw “Men in Black” when it came out on video and absolutely hated it. The press liked it a lot and it became on the the biggest box office in my country when it went on the cinema

I also found “Master and the commander” to be pretty lame, but it was never a huge hit among the crowds either
other movies:
Natural born killers
Gone with the wind

I hate pretty much everything animated churned out by Dreamworks and that other lesser company that’s just like Dreamworks whose name I always forget (Not Pixar; they’re on a far superior level). Their design sense is gross and poorly executed and they try to make up for it by using celebrity voices and unrelated franchises to pimp them out. **Shrek** makes me want to heave. I don’t like the new Disney cartoons either; the characters all have that same idiotic one-eyebrow-raised-look-how-rebellious-I-am expression all the time. The old Disney cartoons from when Walt was alive were nicer.
The first \*\*Matrix \*\*I liked, but I think the other two sucked.
I also did not like **Kill Bill** at all. I enjoy Pulp Fiction but every minute of both volumes of Kill Bill had me rolling my eyes.
I also hate teen comedies, so that adds quite a few movies in there. ^^ I hated _Spiderman_ (but I did like X-Men) and I don’t like anything I’ve seen so far with Cameron Diaz in it, just by chance, though she also annoys the crap out of me.
I keep quiet about it to most everyone around me, but I didn’t like the **Lord of the Rings** Movies either. Thought they were showboaty and overlong, not epic and intricate at all. I also found the **Harry Potter** movies I’ve seen to be dull.
Ooh! And I grew up around a lot of live musical theatre and I find **Moulin Rouge** to a bland, horrible travesty. I’ve never seen **Chicago** but from what I gather I’d probably say the same about it.
**Lost in Translation** = blecch.

Ah, that feels good to get off my chest!

And no, I’m not a movie hater/movie snob. I just don’t like bad movies (unless they have some weird personal redeeming quality). 😃

I totally respect your opinion. I just happened to have seen that movie when I was in the middle of cliques, conformity, socializing with just your group, etc., IOW high school, and it hit pretty much every nerve. It feels so bad it does feel like something to cry about.

I was in high school the first time I saw it as well. I still thought the characters were a bunch of self-absorbed zeroes. But hey, that’s what this thread is for, isn’t it? To unashamedly state that I really dislike something that the majority of other folks I’ve noticed like rather a lot.
Forgot one.

**Das Boot**. OK, I didn’t _hate_ it, but I didn’t exactly empathize with the U-Boat crew either. After the triumphant return and subsequent bombing of the harbor, I found myself looking at Jurgen Prochnow as he slowly died among his crew and going “BWAAAAA-HA-HA-HAAAHHHHH!!! Yeah, that broke my fucking heart!!”

So no, I don’t think I got the message the film wanted me to get.
The message of _Das Boot_?

1. War is hell.

2. Submarine service during WWII was a special kind of hell, alternating between weeks of boredom in a cramped, smelly, sunless mobile coffin and endless moments of claustrophobic terror.

3. Many of the Germans who fought for the Axis powers during WWII did so out of love for their country and a sense of duty, not because they were mindless goose-stepping androids or bloodthirsty, Jew hating monsters.

I thought it was the best war movie ever made.
