To Kill A Mockingbird, only I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like it.
Movies only guys get:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (hell, all the the MP movies)
Animal House
Caddy Shack
Huh? In case that isn’t clear: ![]()
I enjoy all 3 of these movies. Now, if you had posted Dumb and Dumber, Porkies and* Jackass*–maybe…
I own all the MP movies and their soundtracks. Caddy Shack was posted by me on page one. I also like Ghostbusters and Stripes.
You need to be around more women, I think.
I also love Meet Me in St Louis, not only for the songs and the humor but for the sheer brattiness of Tuttie (Tootie?). Hollywood usually (still does) made kids sickeningly sweet and mawkish–she was a hellhound and not very likable. It’s refreshing.
Here are a few more movies:
Arthur
High Society (or The Philadelphia Story)
Hard Day’s Night
The Sure Thing
Sixteen Candles
So the list needs to be populated with movies that are so nice, so sweet, so generally funny, etc. that no one could DISLIKE them without being generally a jerk to begin with. That’s not a lot of movies…
But that is the point of the OP–there are more movies than one would think, no? One man’s asshole is another man’s jerk. I disagree with Bambi–too treacly.
I’m shocked at how much this line shocked me. Are you thinking about the same movie? Children of Heaven is a sweet, gentle little film about a brother and sister in Iran.
I thought it was the one where Legolas joins the crusades with Qui-Gon.
Oh, my movie is “Spirited Away”. If you don’t like this movie, then you’re not really a human being. You’re some sort of soul-less pod masquerading as a human.

Once

Seconded.
A Christmas Story. It is the only movie that I know of that became a timeless classic almost as soon as it was released.

Damn, I think Shagnasty wins the thread.
I haven’t seen about half of those, but the only one on the list I saw and didn’t like was Good Morning. I only made it about halfway through that movie…I’m a big fan of Ozu’s movies, but this was something totally different, and felt less like a movie than a very stretched out sitcom episode from the 50s…
Forgot Moonstruck.
Ghostbusters is timeless movie-perfection. If you don’t like it, stay away from me.

Came in to say just that.

(With thanks to the Scarecrow Video Movie Guide for the topic idea.)
So this rich white plastic surgery victim came in the other night, holding a copy of *Be Kind Rewind *with her fingertips, like it was crawling with earwigs, and wanted a refund because it was stupid. I kicked her in the cunt of course, but it set me thinking . . .
So here’s my list of Movies You’d Have to Be Kind of an Asshole Not to Like:
Be Kind Rewind
My Neighbor Totoro
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
Clueless
Babe
Wall-E
Toy Story
My Giant
Galaxy Quest
Children of Heaven
Billy Elliott
Strictly Ballroom
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Rio Bravo
Persepolis
City Lights
Mrs. Miniver
Good Morning
. . . totally randomly stream of consciousnessed; neither rhyme nor reason in this list.

Interesting. Possibly you’re just not comfortable discussing film.
Life is Beautiful
Say what? What planet are you from where women don’t “get” Monty Python? I love MP and own the complete DVD set of the show, plus most of the movies. (Don’t have Meaning of Life, but that one grosses me out during the vomit scene so I don’t like rewatching it. I have issues with vomit.)
Like the opinion of a talented artist means anything. He grumbles and walks away dejected. “I don’t need you, all I need is this ashtray…”.
Breaking Away
The Gods Must Be Crazy
Excellent choices. Consider them added to my original list.
I’ve been told I was an asshole for not liking Pulp Fiction. I found it irritating and pretentious. I loved Reservoir Dogs though.
For me, it’s The Princess Bride. You could pick any other movie I love and cherish from my childhood or any newer movie I admire and tell me how much you dislike it, how cliche it is or how badly directed and I would agree to respectfully disagree.
But if you dislike The Princess Bride? That’s just unfathomable.

Sorry but it has to be said. You mean “inconceivable!”

You’d have to be an asshole not to like ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’ surely?
We might want to differentiate between “like” and “appreciate”.
I have seen Cuckoo’s Nest and it was a very good film. I never want to see it again.
Therefore, while I appreciate that it is a good movie, I make no claims to “liking” it.
I may well be an asshole, but I don’t think this is evidence of it ![]()
