The **Top Gun** sequel, or most of it. Pretty predictable stuff, although I haven’t watched the end yet. Val Kilmer sure hasn’t aged well.

Kilmer has had many health issues. I’m thankful he’s alive.

I found Top Gun 2 to be…not really all that great. I get it, I really do.

Best review on Letterboxd had it right.

“He makey plane go fast!”

Yep.

Seemed like a rip-off of Star Wars’ assault on the Death Star.

Ok, so a documentary dropped on Netflix called (iirc) “The Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker”. I recommend avoiding it because the entire thing felt so exploitative it shouldn’t be supported by y’all watching it. The story, the people in the story, and the _documentary itself_ is just a series of events by craven people to generate revenue from some poor mentally ill kid who got chewed up and spit out by the American Fame Machine about a decade ago.

The more I think about it, the more I’m disgusted this thing even exists.

Thanks; I wondered about that one. The title alone was off-putting.

I saw mini-doc on YouTube about that case - it did seem somewhat off-putting. On the other hand disturbing, exploitative and off-putting is right in my wheelhouse.

Speaking of exploitation, I watched the majority of a blaxploitation flick that was the balls, called, _[Trouble Man (1972)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069414/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)_, starring Robert Hooks as “Mr. T” a Shaft like private dick who makes Shaft look like Urkel. He’s the guy you go to in South Central LA if you got trouble. The story is actually pretty compelling - Mr. T is hired by a connected guy to find out who’s robbing his dice games, but then he gets framed for murder. Two competing gang guys and the cops are all after his ass and he ain’t gonna take that kinda jive, man.

It was directed by Ivan Dixon - Sgt. Kinchloe from _Hogan’s Heroes_ - and features such fantastic lines as:

"T has one edge–and that’s his cool. But that’s enough, baby, because he’s thinkin’ all the time. And If he wants your ass, he gets it! "

“Look, man, I’m not gonna hassle about bread. You know my price. I’ll be at Jimmy’s around 7:00. Make up your mind, you call me there. Now, get out. The two of you are fuckin’ up a nice day.”

“Yeah, my main squeeze! Give me some.”

… and of course …

“Freeze, motherfucker!”

I had a weird morning.

First, I watched a coming of age movie set in 1963 Montreal. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Those of you who don’t like slower movies probably won’t like it, but it was very well acted and felt very real. Nice use of scenes from Godard’s _Vivre sa Vie_ with Anna Karina as the young heroine’s role model.

On to the ridiculous – Tony Randall (!!!) as Hercule Poirot. Made by the same people who did Margaret Rutherford’s Miss Marples films (she had a cameo in this one) but at least hers kept your interest and moved along, plus killer theme music. But _The ABC Murders_ was so awful. Unfunny. Unsuspenseful. Dumb DUMB plot. And Tony Randall looked like that substitute teacher character Keegan Michael Keye played in the Keye and Peele series – the one who always mispronounced the kids’ names? Yeah. that was what he looked like. Robert Morley was Hastings, uh, no. Just a shambles. And worst of all? It was boring.

I watched _The Sting_ last night. My dad loved it and I could have sworn I’d seen it before but it didn’t look familiar. A great film no matter if it’s the first time or the 20th.

FYI: When it first came out, people groaned about the music being from the 1900s instead of 1930s when the movie is set. Director George Roy Hill said something to the effect that he’d put a Dixieland jazz band in a Roman coliseum film if he thought it would work. **I’d** pay money to see that.

You don’t give the name of this film. I presume that you mean the film _Set Me Free_ from 1999. I only figured that out by searching on your description.

I just saw **Plane** , starring Gerard Butler. A prototypical BDF\* action movie, though a more descriptive title would have been _Plane is Fallen_.

Were you able to finish this? After we exhausted David Suchet, Peter Ustinov, and Emma Thompson’s ex-husband, we gave this movie a try, but quit about half an hour in. One of the worst things we’ve tried to watch in quite a while!

I saw _Stalker_ a year or so ago at the urging of an in-law of Russian ancestry who just loves it. I found it stunningly boring although sometimes very pretty to look at. The characters acted illogically and the plot seemed purposefully baffling.

I must admit I was surprised by the Bible references in a Brezhnev-era Soviet movie. And what was up with those white streamers the guide kept throwing around?

Oh my goodness so much this. Waterways.

Saw “Walkabout” again recently - hilariously weird beginning with the shrink-wrapped domesticity prior to embarking on trip, and how non-chalant pops was when he went off the rails. [yeah I always get in a (well, calm) murderous rage after a good crossword]

He has bolts tied to them to weigh them down; the streamers are for visibility. He throws them ahead to make sure they behave as expected in flight because in The Zone, that’s not a given. It’s a safety precaution.

Just watched _Barbarian_. I’d tell you what its about, but it ain’t about nothing.

Wow. I’ve seen some Goddamn pointless shit, and I’ve seen some Goddamn stupid shit, but this movie was the Goddamnedest Pointlessest Stupid shit I’ve ever seen. I mean, the script must have been made up by a 7-year old who got into the Nyquil and just rambled into a tape recorder.

Horror movie? The Horror is that this piece of crap ever saw the light of day. And that I watched it.

John Malkovich (yes, seriously) did a BBC version of the ABC Murders a few years ago. Fairly tedious and needlessly embellished with details of Poirot’s backstory, which I don’t think matched at all with Christie’s original novels.
