Saw new release, **Conclave** , in a theater. It’s a fictional account of selecting a new pope and political maneuvering by the sequestered cardinals. Rated at 93% on RotTom. Ralph Fiennes, Kim Tucci, Lithgow.

Very good movie. I’m nonreligious, but think it could be enjoyed by liberal Catholics and most other theists. The cardinals have a raft of human failings. At the beginning I wondered if the film could include enough female characters to satisfy modern tastes, and yes there were some small but important parts for women.

Recommended.

Bite your tongue. It is certainly much tamer in the context of today’s culture than it was in the 1970’s, but it’s still raunchy, camp fun and every damn song is a banger.

What’s a…never mind.

Seconded, and along with Little Shop Of Horrors, it makes up my two favourite musicals.

I saw someone refer to it as a “horror”, perhaps on here. I was baffled by that conclusion.

The Young Frankenstein talk is timely since Terri Garr passed away yesterday.

“What knockers!”

“Why, thank you, Doctor.”

Re: Keith Gordon, I found his screen presence a little off-putting (especially cringe in _Back to School_ with the great Rodney Dangerfield at his wise-cracking best) but the man has been an extremely competent director.

Pepper Mill and I constantly quote these lines to each other when we’re at a door, especially with a door knocker.

**Woman of the Hour** (Netflix, 2024) Directed by and staring Anna Kendrick. It’s an Anna Kendrick vibe, if you like her you’ll likely enjoy this. Kendrick plays a potential victim during a dating show which happens to be hosting one contestant that turned out to be a notorious serial killer. The film is really a disjointed series of vignettes about the victims, but it is all brought to a satisfactory conclusion. It was alright, I wouldn’t see it again, but it wasn’t a waste of my time.

No, it isn’t.

My best recent experience was seeing it a few years ago at an outdoor theater. (yes, there are a few still out there). My son and I were yelling out a lot of the call outs, and got a lot of laughter out of the virgins. At the outdoor, throwing things wasn’t a problem.

Speaking of group experiences, I’m watching Rocky Horror Pictures show right now for the very first time.

Just missed it somehow up to now. Seems fun.

To give credit where it’s due; it’s a difficult task to portray rape in a way that it can’t be exploitive (that is: porn for the rapists in the audience). Anna Kendrick has threaded that needle with praiseworthy skill.

**Rocky Horror Picture Show**

Recommended.

Fun. I somehow had never seen it. It actually goes pretty far for a movie in the 1970’s and the songs are fun. The whole thing is very bizarre and I definitely see how it gained a strong following.

So Frank-N-Furter…is an alien? Is that the direction the plot went?

Great soundtrack, Tim Curry is not surprisingly very excellent.

_The Fog_ 1980 Adrienne Jo Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis

The camera work and effects help sell this movie. Creating an ominous atmosphere when the fog arrives.

Some of the performances are weak. I usually like Hal Holbrook. He was completely miscast as a priest. Father Malone is a descendant of one of the conspirators. Other than stating concern, for the crime there was nothing in his demeanor that shows concern or shame.

I like the movie and its worth watching during this Halloween season.

Jamie Lee has a great line, _strange things seem to happen to me_. Nice comment on her horror films.

Wikipedia mentions that several cast members from Fog are in _Escape From New York_.

I completely forgot Curtis was in that movie. I mostly just remember Barbeau delivering most of her lines into a microphone.

In the late 80’s I worked in Michigan for a while. At work I listened to a top 40’s station and there was an interview with Curry who was in town as part of a road show for a revival of _42nd Street_ One thing he said was that no matter what movie or play or whatever he was in, the first thing an interviewer would ask about was Rocky Horror.

You’d think it was the reanimation of the dead, but I think it was more the mistreatment of his “employees”. Ahead of its time on Alien HR.
