I haven’t seen that movie, but the novel has been adapted for the screen six times.

Movies is OK. Scene where they cross that bridge, though, is an all-time great scene. I still can’t believe they did that.

Much less well-known and totally inferior to both _WoF_ and _Sorcerer_ while borrowing the same basic plot set-up is [‎Violent Road (1958) directed by Howard W. Koch • Reviews, film + cast • Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/film/violent-road/). Its sole virtue is the hilariously macho performance of Brian Keith, who proves he would have made an ideal Brock Samson (from _The Venture Brothers_).

_[Let It Ride (1989)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097731/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_let%20it%20ride)_ - starring a coked up Richard Dreyfuss, David Johansen, Teri Garr. A bunch of hilarious characters in this quirky sub-society of horse racing gamblers. It’s hilarious. Dreyfuss is Trotter, the quintessential loser who finally has a very good day. Robby Coltraine is particularly good as the ticket counter seller guy.

It’s available on YouTube at the moment.

If 47 minutes isn’t far enough to feel the slightest bit engaged, then it’s not worth my time.

I get it. The kid dies and he writes Hamlet. It’s the entire premise of the move. I don’t care.

I can properly say it failed, after 47 minutes, to cause me to feel the least bit engaged. If it’s a third of the way through and I still don’t feel anything, then it’s not worth any more of my time just on the off chance the second and third act will be better.

Most recent: _Wake Up Dead Man_. I liked it ok, but it really did need more Blanc. I guessed the killer right away, but had an idea there was more to it. And there was. Good job!

With these Knives Out movies, the journey is more important than the destination anyway.

Predator Wastelands 2025
David Chokachi, Johnny Ramey, Vanessa Zanardi, Amulya Ananth

Prime

I’m not sure if this is a parody. I’ve read it was released a few days before Predator Badlands. I guess hoping to cash in on any confusion.

I got sucked into watching because Prime autoplay launched it after Predator 2.

This creature has none of the real Predator’s powers. A simple bolt action rifle takes him down. He doesn’t seem to have any hunter or combat traits. He has a cool laser weapon strapped to his wrist for self-defense.

Maybe he’s a Predator book keeper? 😉

2 stars of 10

I’d avoid it.

Welcome to The Asylum! They aren’t parody, they’re…something else. Rather than try to explain their apparently very profitable operating model, I’m actually going to refer you to their [Wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Asylum).

I sometimes enjoy a The Asylum picture for what it is; I think @mahaloth has mentioned them before too.

The cream of The Asylum crop scores less than 5.0 at best on IMDb, but more often in the 1.0 to 4.0 range, so viewer beware. There are some best of lists out there.

_Fire in the Sky_ 1993 D. B. Sweeney, Robert Patrick, James Garner, Noble Willingham

MGM+

Good cast. I set aside, is this UFO abduction a hoax question?

I treated this film like any other sci fi.

There is some very good character development. This experience has a profound effect on this small group of loggers and their familes. The entire community grapples with the initial concern that Travis Walton was murdered by his coworkers. Then he’s found days later and the community is divided and many question his UFO story.

I watched late last night and was sleepy. I plan to watch it again.

The interior set of the alien ship was well done and very creepy.

I recommend watching it as pure science fiction.

7.5 out of 10

No, I don’t watch them. Oh, I watched the Sherlock Holmes movie they made hoping it would be a real movie, but it wasn’t.

I did enjoy Z Nation for awhile, the television show. It actually felt like effort.

Apparently it was based on a novel by Travis Walton about his experience, but the onboard sequences were not representative of his experiences. So it has some basis in our reality as opposed to the **The Fourth Kind** which represents itself similarly, but not our reality.

**Lords of Dogtown** (Tubi)

From 2005, though it seemed like it was made before that to me, this is based on the true story of the Z-Boys, a group of pro skateboarders from 1975. It really felt like 1975 to me – the hair, the music, and the cars and locations all looked very authentic. The Z-Boys become very successful after the introduction of polyurethane wheels on their boards, and they then hit big with cameos on TV shows and photoshoots for magazines. At that point, the team begins to fracture as the different kids deal with the pressure and the fame. Like I said, this movie felt authentic to me. The story may have sped through the years, but I don’t know the actual timing of their real lives to compare. There are a lot of cameos in the movie but I missed most of them except for Tony Hawk as a goofy astronaut. I’m not he into 1970s and 80s skateboard culture, but I definitely recommend this. There is also a documentary called _Dogtown and Z-Boys_ that heard is a lot better so I may watch that as well.

**American Ultra** (Tubi)

A stoner and store clerk (Jesse Eisenberg) discovers that he is a sleeper agent and part of a secret CIA program. He tries to save himself and his girlfriend (Kristen Stewart) as Topher Grace sends programmed killers to silence him, including Walton Groggins. The cast is rounded out by Connie Britton, John Leguizamo, Tony Hale, and Bill Pullman. It’s fine, and I know that’s not a ringing endorsement, but as a goofy action flick it does its job. The twists weren’t very surprising to me and the fighting is very over the top. Mild recommendation.
