# MS Entourage died... how can I save my info?

My Entourage 10.0.0 has suddenly stopped working. When I start it up, it says I need to rebuild the database… but when I try to do either the typical or advanced database rebuilding, I get the message… “compacting failed. a read/write error has occured (-40)” It then says my database cannot be rebuilt.

Have I lost all my emails and email addresses?

I have Mac Mail 1.3.11  
Is there a way I can import the Entourage mailboxes and mailing lists?

Are there other options?

Futher research has shown that this is not uncommon… I was unaware that there is a bug with Entourage 10.0.0 that causes it to malfunction once the stored emails reach 2GB  
Have any of you survived this bug

I found software called Entouraid the claims to be able to retrieve lost emails… but you have to pay for it. Has anyone used this with any success?

BTW… since I hadn’t mentioned it already, I am running a Mac OSX 10.3.9

Happened to me, wasn’t aware there were options to fix anything. Attempts to repair the drive gave me indications it was a drive hardware error, and I called Apple and they swapped the drive out, but I lost my email database. Didn’t know it was a common Entourage problem. Time to switch to MacMail? Yikes. I am not a fan of that program…
