Does anyone remember the live bit at the end of one episode, where Michael Ian Black was complaining about that current season of _The Real World_? Apologies **broccoli!** for the paraphrasing, but here goes: “These people can’t have a good time anywhere. They go to Mexico and rent mopeds, and Beth sprains her ankle. Fat Beth, not lesbian Beth. I could have more fun taking seven random people from the audience, and going to Paramus for the weekend on mopeds. So who’s with me?! OK!! We’re going to Paramus!!” Then he starts picking people from the audience during the end credits, and they roll out of there on mopeds. Hilarious. ---

Oh, and remember the three guys from NY whose car broke down around some lighthouse? And the guy in the lighthouse was a Norman Bates type pervert who kept asking them about the S&M bars in New York? And then the tow-truck guy comes, and he’s wearing a black leather thong and metal studs or something? ---

I have mixed feelings about this show, sort of like I do about “Beavis and Butt-Head”…yes, they were both awesome, but they were also both part of the much lamented trend on MTV away from music videos and toward shows. Anyway, I have a bunch of the episodes in digital form, which I acquired via means we aren’t supposed to discuss here. Not the highest quality, but watchable. ---

I never saw the show when it was on, but a friend in college had a video of some of the skits, including the Last Supper-Dip Your Balls skit. But the absolutely funniest thing was the first clip. Some lady is ironing her clothes and a Snuggles Fabric Softener Bear climbs on top of the pile of folded clothes and I think starts to talk like it’s some commercial. All of sudden the lady sees it, screams, and beats it with her iron. It may not sound all that funny in text, but I was practically crying I laughed so hard. ---

Hey, I found the webpage that The State cast members mantain. On it there’s a petition to get the show released on DVD the site is here: [http://www.the-state.com/](http://www.the-state.com/) and the petition is here: [http://www.petitiononline.com/STVHSDVD/petition.html](http://www.petitiononline.com/STVHSDVD/petition.html) The petition may or may not help, but a similar one _did_ help convince Paramont to prepare to release my favorite show, [sub]Dawson’s Creek[/sub], this April(after the petitionthey had a survey- citing " having recieved notice of interest from many fans" - in the fall about best of vs seasons, and they’ve since decided to release the first season.) , so it can’t hurt. ---

The weren’t in the cast, but according that official site: "1999-2000: “Strangers with Candy” - David Wain and Tom Lennon both wrote episodes of this show on Comedy Central. " ---

Wasn’t there a “military fetishist” sketch too? Or was that The Edge? (similar short lived sketch show) All I remember is a soldier hooking up electrodes to his nipples and then the Guns of Navarrone stopped firing. 😃 ---
