I have higher hopes for the MDC than many other African opposition groups. Despite their core support being generally uneducated, they are thoroughly and undoubtedly committed to democratic reform. They ain’t gonna suddenly start ruling by dictatorship.
Also their supporters are very unified. At the moment they are terrified of Mugabe’s thugs but once Mugabe goes, I think we may be surprised at just how unified most of the country is.
True. What is required is some of the neighbouring countries (in particular South Africa) to be more firm in their opposition to Mugabe. Unfortunately they don’t seem too willing to do this (partly because they fear for their own positions).
