I finally rented this movie, and I just didn’t get it. Would someone please explain it to me? Was it a flash back in a flash forward? I am totaly confused. ---

OK, I will try, although someone else will be in shortly to give you the full story. The movie is actually in 2 parts : before and after Pandora’s Box gets opened. The part before is more or less a dream by the main character about her move to Hollywood and the start of her career. The second part is the true story, about how she fell in love with the wrong woman and never made it as an actress. In the end she kills herself. That is the story in a nutshell. Basically the main body of the movie was a fantasy version of events based on the real story that comes at the end. This [salon.com](http://dir.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/10/23/mulholland_drive_analysis/index.html) article does a good job of clarifying matters. ---

I have now watched this movie three times… with the annotations, even. I have tried. I really have, but I am still convinced David Lynch is laughing all the way to the bank. Of course the real meaning behind the film is… Those chicks were _totally_ doing it. ---
