Multi-talented Entertainers

Jason Alexander is a fine singer & dancer as well as actor. He used to do the “hot stays hot and the cool stays cool” song & dance on McDonalds commercials before Seinfeld.

Jodi Foster. A world-renowned actress and director. She’s also multilingual, was the valedictorian Los Angeles Lycee Francais and finished magna cum laude at Yale.

Any number of Broadway performers would qualify as well – those who combine singing, acting and dancing skills in great measure. (Scott Bakula comes readily to mind.)

I’m tempted to mention Sarah Michelle Gellar as well, but I’m not sure how well she qualifies. I read that she’s a bit of a brainiac, but I can’t confirm that. She does have a remarkable acting range for someone so young though, and she’s certaily proficient in tae kwon do. As for her singing ability… well, we’ll find out soon, no?

I can’t say he’s the best, but he’s certainly my favorite, Christopher Walken. He’s a great actor and a pretty good song and dance man as well. He’s also great everytime he hosts SNL.

Bjork, anyone?

Johnny L.A..

Also not bad at singing when she was younger ref: “Bugsy Malone”

I nominate Henry Rollins - can sing, act and does some mean spoken-word poetry.

As was mentioned, there are tons of actors in musical theatre who qualify: acting, singing and dancing. My favorite would be Ben Vereen, who also has risen above adversity.

And let’s not forget the musical theatre people who have done shows in two different languages: Robert Marien (French and English), Dudu Fisher (Hebrew and English), and the best of them all, the late great Steve Barton (German and English).

What do they call that one-man-band gizmo again? A Foatdella? Something like that.

Anyway, I think there are far too many entertainers who may be called multi-talented to list – my feeling/experience has been that really talented and creative people are almost always talented in more than one basic area (even if you don’t often hear about that other talent). For example (very random), Steve Martin was/is really a very talented musician. Performing live music and acting, of course, have a lot in common, so it’s no surprise to see a lot of crossover there.

Now Ben Stein, there’s a multi-talented guy!
Pope Bob
Church of Jesse Fuller

With the possible exception of “Guys and Dolls,” perhaps the only manly musical ever.

Nathan Lane- Sings, Dances, Acts.

Matthew Broderick- Same as above.

Christopher Walken- Sings, Dances,(Check his moves in Fatboy Slim’s latest video) and his acting is awesome.

Henry Rollins- Claims he can’t act, but I disagree. Writer. Poet. Comedian-Claims he isn’t, but once again, I disagree. Singer. Musician. Bad mother f**ker.

Sam Beckett. He can sing and dance, knows seven languages plus he has seven doctorates, a black belt in tae kwon do and a nasty moon kick. Rumor has it that he’s a pretty good playwright as well.
