Mummenschanz!

Luckily I never delete emails. I saw them January 24, 2007 in Luzern. 13 years ago, almost to the day. First row.

I definitely remember them being on Shields & Yarnell, among other shows, particularly Sonny & Cher, IIRC. I would love to see them in person.

How can you tell?

I have seen them a few times on German TV in the 70s or 80s, don’t remember the shows. They are Swiss, aren’t they? Had no idea they were still around.

ETA: I never knew they had been on the Muppet Show which was then my favorite show. Must have missed that episode.

I do remember them showing up on Northern Exposure. No explanation; just hanging around the town.

I recall them from the talk show circuit in the 70s and maybe they had a special. I think they also did one scene in Godspell.

I chose No, didn’t see but remember seeing a lot of them on TV. The toilet paper faces left an impression.

Me too.

When that thread about “art forms you won’t miss” mentioned mime, I thought (for the first time in years) “but but, what about Mummenschanz??” Saw them around 1990 and they were fantastically bizarre - loved the show.

When I was a child, they did a couple of shows… somewhere near where I lived (I was -very- young). I pretty much begged my mom to see them again, so I got to see them two days in a row.

To be clear I’m not certain they were on Shields and Yarnell, but it would certainly make a lot of sense for them to be there.

A lot of shows get called “classics” when all they did was exist on the one channel you could tune into on your crappy black-and-white set.

Does it have to be in person, or is on TV good enough? If the latter, I’ve seen them a few times. If the former, no.

I saw it/them at the local college a few years ago. Seated next to me was a college student with an Ipad, apparently taking notes on the show for an assignment. She was clueless that the light glaring from her screen was an annoyance to the people around her. I finally said something and she apologised and put it away. It was a good but not great show.

Pretty sure I’ve never heard of Mummenschanz before. I guessed it was a German food.

Saw them in Pittsburgh in the late Seventies. I remembering enjoying the show.

I miss read the word as ending with schwanz and for sure had/ have no idea where it was going.

Aye; seeing

MUMMENSCHWANZ

on the marquee would prolly throw a lot of people off.

I just got tickets to see them in Princeton on February 21. Woot!

Mummerschwanz is obviously the porno parody.

I’ve seen them on The Muppet Show. They’re enjoyable in small doses.
